Everton Women and Liverpool Women couldn’t be separated in this afternoon’s derby, with the game ending 0-0 at Goodison Park.
Almost 10,000 fans were in attendance for the Women’s Super League clash which was again staged at the Grand Old Lady but the closest they came to seeing a goal was when Lucy Hope rattled the underside of the crossbar with a shot in the second half.
Missy Bo Kearns had had the first chance of the game in the first period but Megan Finnegan charged it down while Sophie Roman Haug tried to beat Courtney Brosnan from distance but the goalkeeper was alive to the situation and got back to save.
Meanwhile, Everton threatened at the other end when Hannah Bennison found Clare Wheeler but the forward fired narrowly past the post before the reds came close to breaking the deadlock just before half-time but Justine Vanhaevermaet did well to block Jasmine Matthews’ shot behind.
Vanhaevermaet herselt tested Rachel Laws in the second half, with the Liverpool keeper diving to palm the powerful drive to safety while Ceri Holland almost stole the points late for the visitors but Brosnan denied her with her feet.
The result, the first 0-0 draw between the two clubs in league play, denied the reds the chance to gain ground on the top four and a European place and left the Blues sitting in ninth place in the table.
