Everton U21s play Norwich City U21s in Premier League 2 on Friday evening at Walton Hall Park. Jack Harrison played the first half in his quest for fitness as the Blues secured their first win of the season.
Paul Tait’s young side were still looking for their first win as the club’s poor start to the current season continues to resonate for the senior Academy teams as well.
Some of the more experienced players were returning from long injury layoffs, with Luke Butterfield back in action and Eli Campbell returning to the side that was defeated in the EFL trophy at Doncaster Rovers on Tuesday. And this was an opportunity for Jack Harrison to make his first appearance in an Everton shirt since joining the club on loan from Leeds Utd.
Kouyate was cut down coming into the Norwich area, leading to a penalty that Francis Okoronkwo buried into the corner. Harrison showed some lively moves and had a decent shot that flew just over before he was withdrawn at the break.
Less than a minute and Jenson Metcalfe was gifted a poor clearance by the Norwich goalkeeper which he punished with aplomb. But Norwich got one back through Charlie Wilson, former Everton Academy player.
The Blues held out despite strong pressure from the visitors to secure their first win of the season.
