André Gomes’s last likely avenue out of Goodison Park before January could be to Turkey where Fenerbahçe are reportedly looking at signing him before the Super Lïg deadline.
The Portuguese midfielder reportedly saw a move back to Lille collapse on the final day of the English transfer window on 1st September which would have alllowed him to spend another year in Ligue 1 following his loan spell there last season.
With no other suitors over the summer, Everton have been stuck with a player who is their highest earner now that Yerry Mina has departed but who is not part of Sean Dyche’s plans.
Gomes’s reputed £120,000-a-week salary has been a serious impediment to the club’s ability to move him on and if the apparent interest from Fenerbahçe doesn’t firm up, they face having to retain him for the next few months at least.
Gomes’s contract at Goodison Park is up next summer and he will be free to sign an agreement with another club in January, while it’s also possible that he and Everton could negotiate the early termination of his contract to free both parties.
