In the world of cryptocurrency, a number of sites are relaying the story that Stake.com, Everton shirt sponsor and major cryptocurrency gambling site, has been hacked to the tune of $41m by the North Koreans.
After an investigation, the FBI has concluded that the hack of crypto gambling site Stake last week was carried out by North Korean hackers Lazarus Group.
Stake.com is a crypto gambling platform that offers casino games and sports betting. It was the victim of a cyberattack on 4 September that drained over $41 million worth of cryptocurrency from its hot wallets. The Stake team stated that the hacker only obtained a small percentage of funds and that users would not be affected.
According to the FBI statement on 7 September, the agency has carried out an investigation and has concluded that the attack was performed by the Lazarus Group, a notorious cybercrime organization believed to be associated with the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, known colloquially as “North Korea”.
