Alex Iwobi has completed a move away from Everton with Fulham closing a £22m deal for the Nigerian.
He underwent a medical in London today which gave him the green light to secure a transfer that takes him back to London after four years on Merseyside, with a deal sheet submitted to the Premier League just before the 11pm deadline.
Iwobi’s five-year deal that he signed with the Blues at the last minute of the summer transfer window in 2019 was due to expire this coming June but he had expressed to Everton his desire to leave before today’s deadline.
He had expressed his preference to join a club in the Champions League but, ultimately, the lure of moving back to the Capital was enough.
For Everton, it’s another welcome injection of funds but it comes very late in the window and it will deprive them of one of their most creative and industrious players.
Restored to the starting XI by Frank Lampard after a lengthy period of struggling to hold down a regular place in the side, Iwobi has been a fixture in the first team for the past 18 months and a vital part of the club’s escapes from relegation in the last two campaigns.
