Everton match preview and team news

Everton travel east to face Hull City as the Premier League campaign resumes following the international break.

Both sides have had a strong start to the 2026-27 season, with the Toffees and the Tigers sitting 7th and 8th, respectively.

During the international break, several of David Moyes’s squad represented their countries. For England, Jordan Pickford, Jarrad Branthwaite and James Garner featured together as the Three Lions defeated Czechia on Tuesday.

Tyler Dibling scored for the U21s earlier that day, with Harrison Armstrong and Tyrique George also involved from the bench. Jake O’Brien, Brennan Johnson, Vitalii Mykolenko and Braiden Graham also featured for their respective nations.

Everton will be hoping to start up after the break in the same way the Blues ended it. Moyes will face a newly-promoted team for the second game running, after Ipswich left Hill Dickinson Stadium three weeks ago empty-handed, following a 1-0 win for the Toffees. An early strike from an in-form Thierno Barry, who now has six goals and assists in seven appearances, handed the Blues all three points.

Hull City may cause more problems for Everton than the Tractor Boys did, but Sergej Jakirovic’s strong start to Premier League life stuttered before the break.

The Tigers began the campaign on the front foot following promotion from the Championship last season. Two wins from the opening two games represented a dream start but, since then, Hull are winless in three.

EVERTON TEAM NEWS

Ukrainian journalist Ihor Burbas has been reporting about the injury situation involving Vitalii Mykolenko. According to Burbas, there are concerns around Ukraine’s handling of the 27-year-old, who left the national team camp early with leg concerns.

“I have questions for the national team’s medical staff,” Burbas stated. “From what I hear, the situation regarding Mykolenko does not look very professional. He had leg pain. But after an assessment, the medics said there was nothing serious and allowed him to train.” After reports of further pain, “the player was then released to return to his club. At the club, an examination revealed that he should not have been training in that condition at all.”

Merlin Rohl remains a doubt, with vague details regarding the German midfielder’s injury situation.

Elsewhere, Christian Norgaard, yet to debut since his summer arrival from Arsenal, has been in full training and may be slowly integrated into the first team.
