Everton travel up north to face Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Monday night.
The Toffees and Newcastle meet again for a second game running following Everton’s convincing fourth-round victory over the Geordies on Thursday night.
Goals from James Garner, Hayden Hackney and Theirno Barry, and a late consolation goal from Dan Burn put the Blues in the hat for a fifth-round tie, following a 3-1 win.
Everton will now face League Two side Fleetwood Town at Highbury. You can find the full draw here.
Many praised Moyes for the squad selection, and rightly so. It was certainly Hayden Hackney’s first true opportunity, as before the Newcastle clash, Hackney had only seven Premier League appearances and only featured in the starting XI for one of them.
It was the 24-year-old’s first goal for the club following his £24M move from Middlesbrough in the summer.
Tyler Dibling also started, but maybe that was not in David Moyes’s plans.
News broke just prior to the cup fixture that Grealish was unavailable for selection due to a breach of club discipline, with reports suggesting an unauthorised absence from training.
Grealish missed the 2-0 defeat to Arsenal due to illness, but further details are yet to be revealed on the reasoning behind his failure to attend training.
For Newcastle Utd, a chance of redemption may be more difficult following the news that striker William Oscula suffered an ankle injury, forcing the Danish international to be substituted at half-time.
Newcastle manager Matthias Jaislle is expected to monitor the injury situation of the 23-year-old closely due to the quick fixture turnaround.
EVERTON TEAM NEWS
Perhaps the quick turnaround may mean some changes within the starting XI for the Toffees. The potential of Jack Grealish returning to the squad for Monday night seems slim, perhaps suggesting the two wingers that started on Thursday night, Dibling and George, may be given the nod again.
English international Jarrad Branthwaite is expected to return to the lineup following concussion protocols restricting the Carlisle-born defender from featuring against Arsenal and Newcastle.
PREDICTED LINEUP (4-3-2-1)
Everton: Pickford; Rohl, Branthwaite, Tarkowski, Mykolenko; Hackney, Garner, Dewsbury-Hall; Dibling, Barry, George.
