David Moyes has been delighted with the improvement of Thierno Barry this season and said Everton are working to add more to the forward’s game.
Barry scored a brace during Friday night’s 3-1 win over Coventry City to take his total to 10 goals in 13 appearances this season. It was a fourth goal in his last three games, as Everton have recorded three straight victories. Barry also added an assist, releasing Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall for the third goal.
The French forward endured a mixed debut campaign with the club, but has shown positive signs during his second year with the Blues. Barry’s six goals in the Premier League rank him third in the Golden Boot standings, behind Erling Haaland (9) and Alexander Isak (7).
Following the win over Coventry, Moyes discussed the 24-year-old’s development and believes Barry will keep on improving as he matures and adjusts to the Premier League.
“He’s certainly improved. I think he’s getting a better feel for scoring. I think he’s just needed a bit of time to get used to it. He’s a young centre-forward coming to the Premier League,” Moyes said to evertontv.
“There are not a lot of young centre-forwards that are scoring loads and loads of goals. Maybe in the past we’ve had Wayne [Rooney] and different people who could do it, but in the main it’s quite a difficult job. Sometimes it takes you until a bit later in your career to start scoring regular goals and be a consistent centre-forward.
“He’s doing very well, but there are lots of other parts of his game, parts of his technical game, we’d love to improve. We keep working on it, but he’s beginning to get more into the places to score and played through. Let’s be fair, he had an assist for Hayden Hackney in the cup here last week and another assist [vs Coventry] for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. So he’s also doing that bit as well.”
