This is quite simply a stunning piece of work. It will stand as a very real and fine treasure in itself on a select number of Everton bookshelves — because it is a Limited Edition with a run of only 400 copies, and prove rather hard to get hold of. The rarity is fitting, because it celebrates a collection of rarities so precious yet in many ways so distant from the experience of most Evertonians, or the fans of any other club for that matter.
Any description of the treasures that were painstakingly and expensively complied by Dr David France over his lifetime as an avid Evertonian simply doesn't do the David France Collection justice. But this book comes very very close. It brings to life in superb full-colour plates (on every left-hand page) a carefully chosen selection of items from the collection, with some excellent narrative and contemporary anecdotal information alongside.
