Jack Barrett 52

Everton Academy goalkeeper, Jack Barrett, joined Everton as a 9-year-old and considers his role-models to be Blues No 1, Jordan Pickford and Manchester City’s Ederson.

He graduated from the Everton Academy in July 2018 to become one of Everton U18s goalkeepers. But he would sit on the bench for almost every game of the U18 Premier League season, featuring in a U18 Premier League Cup game and a Liverpool Senior Cup tie.

The start of the next season saw him elevated to the Under-23s where he also sat out the first 5 games of the Premier League 2 season, without appearing again on the team sheet (injured?).

Again, he would appear only as a sub on the bench for just 8 of the Under-23 games, and he would only play one game, the last of the regular season in the U18 Premier League.

In May 2021, Barrett signed a 1-year contract extension with the club after having made consistent and impressive progress since joining the Blues’ Academy. The shot stopper says the expert coaching and supportive environment at the Club has been central to his development.

Barrett has enjoyed his first season in the Under-23s squad during 2020-21 – and wants a regular place in David Unsworth’s side next season.

A lifelong Evertonian, Barrett revealed the deep pride he feels in representing his boyhood team:

“I joined Everton when I was very young and I’ve always supported the Club, so I’m made up to be staying,” said Jack. “I’ve been here for so long but sometimes I do come into Finch Farm and think, ‘Wow, I’m playing for Everton, that’s mad’. Myself and my family are so proud I’m here.

“Everyone at Everton has looked after me well and helped me through each age group. I’ve worked with [goalkeeping coach] Kevin O’Brien for a number of years and he has been a big influence. All the other keepers are great, too. We push each other and we all want the best for each other.

“It’s a very good atmosphere. All the players get on very well and we all enjoy being part of this club. Next season, I just want to keep improving and try to play as many games as I can.”

He started off the 2021-22 season as the sub keeper for Zan-Luk Leban, who was preferred for the U23s in the absence of Harry Tryer through injury.  Jack got a couple of games in the autumn but his last game on the bench was in early December and he was not seen in any squad for the next 6 months. He was one of 10 fringe players offered a new contract in June 2022, and he agreed to a 1-year extension.
