Still no new signings! So all the talk about the need to strengthen the squad and bring in reinforcements was more flannel from dithering Davy. The sooner West Ham, Newcastle, and Aston Villa finish in the transfer market the better then Davy can swoop on what's left over. Can't wait til next season. How long before he moans about squad size?

Question to a Martian: In that sentence, to which Top 6 club could the word 'they' possibly refer?
Since Moyes came, we've had good times and bad times on the pitch. But the transfer windows have almost always been torture. The way I remember it, two years ago we haggled endlessly over Arteta's fee, almost until the Villarreal games were upon us. For an extra half a million quid paid a month before, we could have had him for the whole pre-season. Who knows what difference that might have made?
Early transfers make sense. OK, you have to pay a few weeks' more wages. But surely we're a bit beyond that, aren't we? We paid those wages last year, and it worked a treat. Let's do it again. And let's not wait for the final word from Sheff U's finest (decent enough player though he is) before we do it.

You've got to assume that they're making enquiries all over the place but the perception you get is that they won't do anything until the Jagielka issue is sorted one way or the other. And the current strategy definitely doesn't jive with the rhetoric of last summer when we had to get the players in as soon as possible so they all started pre-season training together. Ho hum...
