Deja Vu

Comments (3)

With the fixture lists about to be with us, and reading the posts about the lack of transfer activity, reminds me of a couple of seasons ago. Let's just hope that when the transfer window is about to shut we are not away at Wigan. I remember being in the ground and no-one was watching the match ? we were all glued to radios to see who we had signed. We all came out and asked "Have we signed anyone yet" only to be told "No". We all rushed home and the PC was on right up until midnight and then 'tick, tick, tick'... Nothing! ? and with it, all hope we had for a crack at Europe. Deja vu? Hope not!

What I can't comprehend is why David Moyes was so proactive, sleuthful (is that a word?) and ruthless in the transfer market last season, getting not just his man but three of them. "He's finally learnt his lesson of how to do transfers" we all said.

So, coming into this close-season, what did we hear? Something like "Oh, don't expect any quick signings"... which to me was like saying "We've had too much on our plate trying to make sure of Europe we didn't even have time to think about getting more players in to increase the size and strength of the squad."

Then there is always the other explanation: we are back on the tight purse strings and with our low wages/offers, no-one would bite.

It's begining to do my head in that we've made no signings although we are supposed to be signing Jagielka today but this doesn't exactly set my world alight.

On another note, Combining mailbox and blog has definetly made things easier.

My reading of the situation is that DM basically has an incomplete jigsaw.
Depending on what piece/player he buys to fit that jigsaw the other pieces may change. I presume that the player he wants to fit first is Phil Jagielka after that I’d hope the other pieces/players will fall into place quite quickly.

I am worried.
Ok the press is full of ungrounded speculation at the moment but my concern is the calibre of player that we are being linked with is not acceptable.
Do we really want to wind up with a bunch of journeymen players or do we want to go up a level and challenge the leading pack?

The kind of players we need are likely to cost in excess of 7 million pounds.
All this talk of player exchanges and being unable to afford Fernandes is very disheartening.
Worst of all is the story about Jason Roberts of Blackburn- we might as well call it a day if we start signing players of that quality.
Does anyone know what the transfer budget is?I think it is less than 6 million pounds.
Realistically though this is a great opportunity for us to progress and once again win things,we have the nucleus of a very good side.
Come on Moyes and Kenwright get it together!
