ESCLA - where are you

Comments (4)

Anyone know of the fate of this august body? I have sent emails to escla1@hotmail.com and contact@escla.org.uk and got no reply. I requested and received a membership application form back in March which I filled out and sent back to them together with my cheque. Since that time nothing, nada, zip, zilch. Has it collapsed? Does anybody out there know whether it has gasped its last? Any info or kicks in the right places greatly appreciated.

I was a member of ESCLA last year and will join again this year. As far as I know they are still up and running - they’ve recently sent me a membership renewal pack.

I’m surprised you’ve had nothing back yet - although I must admit I had exactly the same experience with the ’Berkshire Blues’ when I lived in Reading. Perhaps they’ve had lessons in customer service from the people at Goodison??

I joined them as a kid in 1981 and was a member for 25 years, even went to Rotterdam with them in ’85, until last Summer, but in the end I couldn’t really justify the money for a couple of newsletters a year and not much else. They are useful for tickets sometimes and they provide subsidised travel. The only bugbear being that they go by snailrail from Euston and it’s much quicker by car. That said they usually have well over 1,000 members and are one of the biggest Supporters Clubs anywhere.

Think they are still going, but communication is pretty haphazard. The final straw for me was that they kept beseaching you to provide articles for their newsletter and I sent them an e-mailed article in Spring 2005. It never appeared, but a year later I got an e-mail out of the blue from the editor saying they had published an incorrect e-mail address, but he had retrieved the article, liked it and would use it in the next newsletter as a lot of it was still valid. It never appeared! However, apparently, it did finally make an appearance in Spring 2007 - a full 2 YEARS after it had been sent to them!

Guess you may be suffering from something similar? It’s probably an out of date or incorrect e-mail address they’ve given you.

If you are planning to go to games and don’t want to drive and don’t mind getting up in the dark and getting home very late they are worth joining, and as I recall a good set of lads. Best of Luck.

If your just interested in match tickets, you should consider the evertonia membership. I live down south and have been a member for two seasons and have never been refused a ticket for any game, including the Derby.
Very useful when you can’t commit to a season ticket.
