Having watched tonight's England U-21 game and, like many Evertonians, with one eye on Nugent, I think at £6M he's overpriced while in Vaughan and Anichibe, we have two home-grown players with better prospects. That's not to say that Nugent is a bad player ? far from it ? and would be a welcome addition to an already threadbare squad. However, when you consider earlier postings that we're skint, any money we have is better spent elsewhere surely, with midfield a priority.

We've been mentioned as being interested in the majority of the U-21 squad (Reo-Coker, Milner, Richardson, Baines to name but a few in the England squad alone). This inactivity in the transfer market ? especially compared to last summer ? is driving most of us crazy. My lunchtimes are spent munching salad whilst searching every conceivable website for a mere glimpse of a possible signing. Messrs Moyes/Kenwright haven't signed anyone yet but I don't believe for one minute that there aren't signings waiting in the wings. Especially with Moyes looking for younger players.

And hopefully, a few of them are in Germany at the moment.....

Agree that Anichebe & Vaughan are better prospects than Nugent. To be honest with the sort of money being mentioned for Nugent or Reo-Coker and his fellow U21 men, I am more than happy for Moyes to take his time and get players he fancies at the money he thinks sensible.
I was unimpressed with England last night, the midfield couldn’t pass to save their lives, and we don’t need any more players like that - Pip Neville is bad enough by himself! ;-)

Seeing Nugent last night I can see no reason for us signing him for anything more than £3m.
He is by far one of the most overated players currently in the transfer rumour pages.
I would have Alan Smith before Nugent. He has experinec of playing for a big club in all manner of competitions.
As far as the rest of the U21’s I quite like that Leighton Baines.
What I can’t understand is why Vaughny isn’t starting before waster Lita and the inaffective Nugent.

Yep, think you’re about right on the £3m for Nugent, and Baines did look OK overall.
As for Nugent instead of Vaughan? No idea and I agree - Vaughny is much more mobile, seems quicker and links play better than Nugent. IMHO of course!

A RS mate of mine has just pointed out the tournament is in Holland not Germany. Must have been a combination of the German ref last night and thinking of the Uruguayan fella who plays for Schalke. Anyway back to my salad.....

I was speaking to some ex Everton players recently at a function, and they agree with Alan as regards Nugent. They said he was not good enough for the "silly money" Preston were asking. I would agree with Big T, Alan Smith would be a better option.
