The Mail Bag

Worst team ever

Comments (14)

A friend asked me to name my side's all time worst XI the other day so I thought I'd post the question on here to get away from the FM-esque pointless transfer banter (and cos I'm a little bored at work).

I'm a fairly young Blues fan, but I didn't realise how much sh!te I'd seen play for us during the early 90's. Here's the side I came up with - let me know if you've got any improvements:

GK: Simonsen
RB: O'Kane
LB: Burrows
CB: Bilic
CB: Krøldrup
RM: Davies
CM: Williamson
CM: Thomsen
LM: Blomqvist
CF: Bakayoko
CF: Madar
(Manager): Mike Walker

Great game this to take our minds off the silly season. Here’s mine

Wright ( or Dai the Drop in the event that RW has fallen foul of some obstacle or other)

Thomas
Keeley
Koldrup
McLaughlin ( Tiger)

Curran
Thommsen
Langley
Farrelly (capt)

Angel
Walsh

Sub : Ward (Mitch)

Mgr. Should be Walker I know, but 30 years on I still get nightmares about seeing Gordon Lee on the touchline. He gets the nod

Chairman P. Johnson

Nice idea for a little game, but how about a team of players all with same initialled surname

Baardsen

Barrett - Bilic - Brown - Ball

Barmby - Bracewell - Ball - Beagrie

Beardsley - Beattie

Subs; Bent, Burrows, Branch, Bailey, Bakayoko

Manager; Bingham

...couldnt think of an A team, hence starting with B. Any others?

P.S. believe it or not I didn’t do the worst team thing coz I had 7 fullbacks and no centre halfs. I couldnt justify putting Bilic in because he was class (when he played) and I only saw Kroldrup play 3 times and didn’t think he was that bad. I don’t think we’ve actually been that bad for CBs, or at least not since I’ve been going. Maybe my standards are too low. Who knows.

Now come on, at least Mad Mick Madar did pop a few in, before missing an open goal at Anfield 30 seconds before Ince equalised...

I’d have at least put John ’Frank’ Spencer in before our mercurial Frenchman...

I’d add Graveson - I hear he was a good player but that was only because my view in the Upper Bullens was restricted and if Tommy ever did anything half decent, it was strangely behind that pillar !!!

Always left the match thinking all he did was chase around like a headless chicken, shoot aimlesly at goal and gesticulate to the Gladwys Street. Oh and give the ball away 9 times out of 10!

Sorry - made up my own game there. Who’s hiding behind the pillar today ???

I actually thought Madar was ok, his face though when he rolled that one into the side netting in the Anfield derby, Good God, you thought somebody had put p*ss on his chips.

Any bad side has to include Mark Hottiger, Paul Holmes and big Brett Angel, although what on earth is he doing in our Masters team.

Brett "Couldn?t hit a barn door" Angell and Peter Degn definitely two of the worst I?ve ever seen not in his day but when he played for us Mark Hughes had the turning circle of an oil tanker and his name sake Stephen Hughes was rubbish, Alex "The New Viera" Nyarko, god it hurts when you think and so many players pop into your head in just a few minutes.

Bloody ?ell - how did I forget Brett Angel?!?

I struggled for centre backs too, but chose Bilic and Kroldrup on the basis they cost the club a fortune and only mustered a few games between them!

Ask your Dad about the one and only (thank God!) Bernie ("the dolt") Wright. He?d cakewalk into your team and then fall flat on his face. A true legend in his own drinking up time!

what about DAVID GINOLA i never saw any brilliance from him, no good passes, tackles, shots or runs.

I thought steve simonsen had a promising start and showed some class reading of the game at first, he did fade heavily though but i think his started is enough to omit him from a bad line-up.

I was never a fan of Scot Gemmil, he was supposed always listed as our top passer but they were mostly backwards, or to a heavily marked player.
