Money Madness

What chance have we of making the signings we need this summer when players with the limited ability of Marlon Harewood and Kamara at WBA are being touted around for £5M! With our limited budget, the chances of buyieng the quality needed is remote. Maybe Nugent isn't that over-priced after all?

Moyesy will be looking abroad this Summer I think. German League would make a lot of sense as would some of the Dutch players. Forget Italy though - we only seem to get wasters from that League. Spanish are becoming flavour of the month like the French were, but prices look a bit high.

A general point on transfers is that you always need a bit of luck. 3 years ago we made tits of ourselves by trying to buy Robbie Savage in 50p a week instalments and ended up etting Tiny Tim, but even then only because Crystal Palace?s Chairman wouldn?t pay his agent?s fee! Think we got the better player, don?t you? Just proves that sometimes a player in a lower league with something to prove will give you better value than an overpaid, complacent ?star? from the bloated Premiership.

Does anybody think Darren Bent is worth between 18 and 20 million?

I don’t.

What is ’worth’ Steve?? Worth is what a club is willing to pay for a player, that si what he is worth to them. Clearly Darren Bent was seen as being ’worth’£17m by the powers that be at est ham, otherwise they wouldn’t have agreed to pay it.

To me it’s all about performance guarantees. Some players, Darren bent being one of them, guarantee you a certain level of performance. By that I mean, unlike your james Beatties of the world, even when not scoring goals you still have an allround good quality footballer on your hands.

In terms of the talent available right now, attacking talent in particular, and taking into account Bent’s performances over the last two seasons I can see exactly where West Ham are coming from.

Bent may not seem to be ’worth’ £17m in the cold light of day but if you need a striker who will not only guarantee you over ten goals but also consistently good allround performances then I don’t see a much better bet available than Darren Bent.

People will pay a premium for that level of performance ’security’, especially if they have major funds available.

To be fair West Ham would pay my company £17 million for my services at the moment, I think West Ham are into some sort of elaborate money laundering corporate tax dodge the way they are chucking money about at the moment.
