Daniel Braaten

I find it a bit strange that a team like Everton seems not to be interested in signing a Bosman player like Daniel Braaten. He is a striker/winger regularly picked for the Norwegian national team and he would probably cost around £500k-£1M, which is a bargain if you ask me. I have been following Moyes struggle to sign a striker in the last few weeks and instead of spending £10M on Nugent he should spend £1M on 24-year-old Norwegian striker Braaten.

Even though Moyes?s priorities are in defence and midfield, we need numbers too. Tell us more about this Braaten, John-Are!
Well firstly I would say that because Norway isn?t part of the EU then the Bosman ruling wouldn?t apply to a Norwegian footballer plying his football in Norway. That aside, I would say that the biggest sticking point for Everton is wages. If all you?re prepared to pay a player is a handful of coppers and a piece of cheese, then it doesn?t matter whether you can sign them on a free or not. They just ain?t going to come.
I would just like to add a comment to Mark about Norway not being a part of EU. Norway is in fact a part of EEC which means that he is in fact a bosman player. He is free to discuss terms with any clubs from beginning of July. I also no for a fact that there are 4 clubs from the english premierleague which is following his situation closely. Daniel has been playing for Rosenborg for the last 2-3 years. Rosenborg has won the Norwegian premierleague 15 times out of the last 16 and have been playing regularly in Championsleague. Daniel Braaten is a quick player with an extreme physique. In addition to above I know that Arsene Wenger has been watching his progress for years now, maybe it is time for Everton to act first this time instead of the wait and see philosophy.
My mistake. I just checked and it all has something to do with the EEA rather than the EEC. All that aside, there is still the question of wages. You can link who who like, but transfer fees aren’t the be all and end all - it always comes down to wages. Unless he wants to play for £5.70 an hour, in all likelihood he’ll be discussing terms over lunch with Arsene at Claridges rather than over a BLT with Moyes at Knutsford services
He obviously isnt a bosman if we would have to pay 500k-1M is he!
You are probably right regarding wages, that Everton can not compete with most premierleague clubs. However, Braaten will most likely not have the same demands as the best players at Everton even. I honestly do believe that he would be happy with 20’£ a week or maybe even less. Remember, he is Norwegian not Spanish, Italian or from any other highly rated nation. Let’s just hope that Moyes do know about this player and that he reacts immediatly than maybe, just maybe we can get him before the other clubs knows what hit them.
I understand John, the problem is that Everton is a lot like the NHS. Nobody goes into it to get rich, they go into it for the love of it, or that it fulfils higher ideals.
The problem is that there are not that many players like that out there. When you look at teams like Arsenal who are great at bringing through and nurturing young talent whilst having the resources to compete for the highest honours year in and year out, Everton are a tough sell.
It doesn’t matter whether he’s Norwegian, French, Spanish or Italian. The big teams have scouts everywhere and they recognise good talent.
As far as I know a bosman player is a plyer who is free to discuss terms with any clubs due to the fact that he has 6 mnth?s or less left on his contract. Therefore, if we put £500k-£1M down we can get him ready for the pre-season. Otherwise we would have to wait until December.
December? What happens in December? I think the Bosman threshold is January 1, if that?s what yer on about.
If this guy is any good then we should certainly be after him. On Bosman style free would be nice though. Any news on the Riquelme front?
Daniel Braaten is no way good enough for Everton or the premier league. He was a talent some years ago but is now so lazy he hardly ever scores in the weak norwegian league.
I am norwegian but this player simply is not goog enough. I rate him alongside Azar Karadas who did nothing while at Pompey. Avoid!
