"Ambition & excellence is for the ambitious & excellent"?? ..... PE teachers are never going to come out with anything too intelligent, that's why they teach PE but this quote is surprisingly close to the mark.
The rain's coming down, it's dull, miserable & we haven't made any sort of positive move in any direction... it must be summer! And that will be why I'm on an absolute downer & refusing to discuss anything about next season with anyone. It's a familiar feeling that could be cured by a number of things...
-
The signing of Nugent.
-
The signing of Jagielka.
-
The signing of that welsh kid 'Gunter' just on principle as I find it embarassing we didn't get him (whoever he is).
-
Sign anyone.
None of this is going to happen though... well Jagielka will as it will be an embarassment that we let him go in the first place & ironies like that are forever present at this club. The best we can hope for is Franny Je... no, no, no.

Trust in Moyesie, Wayne. But, just cast your mind back 3 years to the Summer of 2004. At July 13, all we had done wassign Marcus Bent for £400k. Then on July 14, the news broke that we had bid for Robbie Savage. Transfer frenzied Evertonians were prepared to take someone we had routinely abused from the stands as some sort of nancy boy who wanted to break our players’ legs and couldn’t play... just because it was a new signing. Of course, youll no doubt remember it ended badly as Bill’s offer to Brum of 50p a week and letting David Gold read his copy of the Beano was laughed out of town and we were a laughing stock once again.
2 weeks later, having sold Linderoth for just £1.3 million, we just about scraped together the £2million to buy a certain Tim Cahill, but even then only because a move to Palace hit the rocks late in the day.
Looking back, aren’t you glad we didn’t just rush in for Savage who 6 months later proved what an arsehole he is by holding a gun to Birmingham’s head and demanding a move to Blackburn. He said it was to be nearer his sick relatives in Wrexham, but looking on a map, you’ll see that they are both the same distance from Wrexham! It was all about money and he’s done naff all since. Tiny, meanwhile has been a great player and a very good ambassador foe EFC down under.
So, let’s wait and see what happens - we are only a third into the window... lots of time yet!
