Irresponsible spending?

Comments (11)

I'm sure I've read Micheal on here before write that a player is only worth what someone is willing to pay for them ? that is how any market place works. Therefore if someone is willing to pay £6 million for Nugent, he is worth £6 million, same for Koumas' move to Wigan and any other "target" we've missed out on because we've not been willing to pay the market value.

Moyes should not be criticising the market for being the way it is because that's just how it is, and every other Premier League team seems to be still going about their business. Moyes should dare to put pressure on that idiot Kenwright and his mate to provide the funding to buy the transfer targets he has identified. The lack of investment in our club is unbelievable. I have realised now that this club is going nowhere under Kenwright, except to Kirkby.

Thanks Alan for clearly stating the obvious: something is worth what someone is prepared to pay for it. Is a one bedroomed flat in London’s Knightsbridge worth £500,000? It is now. That is market economics.

Football transfer fees have gone up, not because of "irresponsibility", but because there is much more money coming into the game through TV money and new rich investors. And also because clubs are desperate to stay at, or join, the top table.

Everton’s position of not being able to compete to buy quality players is simply not sustainable. Praise to Moyes, we have a very good core of excellent players now. But it is not enough, it needs addition, and the Artetas and Lescotts (and Moyes) will not stay indefinitely if it is not added to. The blunt truth is that we needed £30m to spend this summer to really ’move on’ as a team. The extent of the problem is that we needed (my picks) Fernandes, Parker, and Wright-Phillips (not Koumas and Nugent).

When a good business with lots of opportunities to grow has owners who cannot afford to invest what is necessary, it is bought by someone else who can. Actually, I think Kenwright has done an excellent job getting us through this period, leaving us as a top half of the table team with a fine manager and some excellent players. Now, if he really does love Everton, he must find new investors who are can keep us competing in the new world of football which is now beginning. Or we will, without a doubt, steadily decline. That’s economics.

Could no agree more Alan I cringed when I saw Moyes statement sadly If Kenwright gets us moved to Kirkby selling our last asset Goodison on the way where do we go?.In to obscurity ?frankly I am surprised that so many people are still happy under Bill as with his track record of half truths and lies I doubt many would buy a car off him.But seem to think hes fit to lead our club.

I cannot believe so many Evertonians would willingly gamble the future of our Club on ’iffy’summer signings! Here we are with a good chance of landing a bright modern stadium for a minimal investment (around 10% of the debt our neighbours will incur)and usually sensible people want to blow the’in’money on the likes of Nugent and Joey Barton!
When Blue Bill lost the Kings Dock for the sake of £30M,he vowed he would never be ’caught short’again and I’m sure he’ll be remembering that vow. Please, I beg you, keep the faith!

So Richard, do we just sign no-one? It’s another obvious statement by me but there’s no point having a fancy stadium if we have a crap team playing in it. There must be a balance between stadium improvements and team improvements. The way I see it this summer, the balance is wrong and the team will most probably suffer. We’ll still do okay in the premier league but you know as well as I do that our lack of investment in the team means once again any European adventure will be sacrificed.

I’m not really criticising Kenwright for ring fencing money for a new stadium, it’s the fact that he and Wyness seem unable to find any extra investment at a time when millionaires and billionaires are falling over themselves to invest in teams smaller and less successful than us. I have no inside club information so I can only speculate but it would be a fair assumption that Kenwright rebuffs any approaches that involve him giving up any control of the club.

I think Kenwright is taking a gamble that the present squad plus one or two fringe additions can keep Everton in the top half of the table whilst the funding for Kirkby is put in place. To me,that would be a reasonable plan of action if we were building nearer to our spiritual home.As things are ,the plan stinks!

As ever,I think Doddy is trotting out Kenwright’s thinking on summer spending. After all,Moyes managed to get us up to sixth last season and can afford a little slippage to achieve a budgeted tenth spot.It just staggers me that the club cannt even afford the deposit on the Kirkby stadium without raiding the transfer kitty and thus accepting the role of ’also rans’.

Bill Kenwright has made lot of promises in the past .....never again....we domnot need to sell Wayne Rooney (that one?s almost funny).. ..the King?s Dock money is ringfenced.... Fortress Money (a disgraceful fabrication) is in the banking system and will be with us soon... blah blah.. while all the time stripping the club of its assets to bolster the balance sheet.

This unctious man?s word is worth practically nothing to me. I can?t believe so many Evertonians are going to be hoodwinked (again) by the charlatan.

What we need is a great team not a "shiny" new stadium. We fail to back the manager and hold out to fund this potentially disastrous move to Kirkby at our peril.

We need proper vision and business management not a bumbling. conniving "true blue" who doesn?t give a damn about Evertonians.

Sorry Richard Dodd, your comments are increasingly sycophantic and moronic.

What amazes me about the lack of funds to spend om players is the way that Moyes just seems to accept it with a shrug of the shoulders. He seems a man of principle. If Allardyce or Benitez were in his position, they’d be banging on BK’s door.

Why doesn’t he? And if he is doing and getting no response, when do you think he’ll resign?

If Richard Dodd is really a representative of Kenwright’s thinking, the situation is truly frightening. Because we don’t have enough money to both build a (cheap to us) stadium in Kirkby AND fund the team, we are going to keep the money for Kirkby - and hope for the best on the team.

This is a HUGE gamble. If Arteta and Johnson were both injured for significant periods, we would be fucked. This is utter folly.

Prediction: if Everton are suffering by January and Moyes does not get funding for that transfer window, he will resign.

And by the way, Richard, try reading my post. I don’t want to "blow money on the likes of Nugent and Barton". I want to be buying Fernandes, Parker and Wright-Phillips. But for that your friend Kenwright has to let someone in to buy the club. Do you understand yet?

No Everton fan wants or expects reckless spending come on this is Davy he spends the cash like its out his own pockets. This is not meant as a slight on him . What we want and are entitled to is for the chairman to back his manager with cash not praise for too long Kenwrights faults are overlooked
