Moyes/Kenwright

How many more idiots are going to write on here that Everton are being sensible by not paying inflated prices? By that standard we may never buy another Premier League player again. It's not rocket science that everyone has to pay the going price.

Also some say what's the point in wasting money just swapping like for like as West Ham /Newcastle, and so on, are doing - well the point is this, if Moyes is such a good manager as we are led to believe then surely whoever he signs he will improve as a player [jury out at the moment on that one].

Finally we come to Kenwright? Certain people insist the club is in safe hands and not risking everything as Leeds did and failed? Jesus give me strength, that's just one team. I don't see the likes of Portsmouth/Villa etc struggling? When you look at what we've actually spent this year I think we're 3rd from bottom in the league - even Derby have spent more and still people say it's the right thing to do. Bullshit.

Conclusion -

We may or may not have a brilliant manager in Moyes. Truth is we'll never find out because the root of all this is Kenwright. He hasn't got a pot to piss in but still won't realise we're being held back by him.

We need investment now before it's too late and we've missed the boat. Someone needs to sit him down and tell him, and quickly, if you can't do the job you're there for then move over and let someone have a go because at the moment the Red Shite are making us look like a really small club. Rant over

Is it true the Arabs that were after Liverpool are now moving in on Southhampton?? WHY NOT US???

On your last point, yes it's rumoured that the Dubai consortium are looking to invest in Southampton. Why not us you ask? Only Keith Wyness and Bill Kenwright can provide you with an answer!

At the risk of sounding rascist, does anyone really want Arabs owning Everton??? International investment is fine by me, but in todays political climate, investment from some areas of world, in my opinion, are unwanted.

Your banging on about everyone paying the ?going rate?.
And you feel we should be spending, I guess £5m-£7m on average players.

Those players, and this is the bottom line, would NOT improve our team.
I cant think of many, if any, sub £10m transfers that would definitely increase the quality of our team.
Sure we need to increase squad depth, but I?dmuch rather give DM time to find a cahill-esque addition for a couple of million from a lower league, than spend £5m-£7m on an average player just because everyone else is!
The reason teams like wigan etc are spending £5m on average players is because they ?have?to. We dont.
We are a top 6 team, they are not!
They nearly got relegated, so they are more desperate.

Of course the bottom line is investment etc.
But that is the status quo, better to accept it than endlessly banging your head against a wall like so many people seem to enjoy???
When it changes, it changes.
Nowt anybody on here can do about it, so I wish people would give it a rest!

Aren’t you the littlest bit proud that Everton remain one of the few British owned clubs in the Premiership? Everton a.k.a. The People’s Club are owned by a fan.

Surely thats better then some foreign corporation offering fat sweaty greasy dollars in exchange for the soul of the club?

Having no money doesn’t really bother me so long as the team maintain’s its current Top 10 stature and continues to improve.

If David Moyes ever admitted it was impossible to compete or maintain the Top 10 status without extra cash then I would agree that Kenwright needs to sell and I’m sure it would be a foreign investor but until that day I’m very proud.

In fact when you think about it are Everton the only Top 10 side remaining who haven’t sold out? Gotta be proud of that.

Dutch, you are condemned out of your own mouth!

"Having no money doesn’t really bother me so long as the team maintains its current top 10 satture and continues to improve".

Excuse me, but do you seriously think that this is possible with no money Dutch? Seriously? When everyone else is investing? Really?

Dutch, I for one would be thrilled if a fan like Kenwright suddenly found £50m so that he could both invest what is necessary in the team and build us a new stadium. But he won’t. So we need to find someone who can. It really isn’t very complicated.

The problem with the club is how unbelievably negative some of our supporters are. The way the manager and chairman are talked about you would think we have been one of the worst sides in the league, but you all don’t bother looking at the facts. We have a very good side, have qualified for Europe 2 out of 3 years and have a very good young side that are under contract for years to come. We don’t need to overhaul the side like West Ham because we didn’t just narrowly avoid relegation like they did. And how about Newcastle, they go out and spend ridiculous amounts of money every season and have shit to show for it.

I would also advise some of you to maybe take a business class some time in the future. The last thing you do if you want to be a successful business is just pay what the other person wants, or "the going rate" as some of you put it. It’s called negotiating, look it up. If the first option isn’t right you move on to the next option and continue to bargain. Sure, another company might come in and pay the price you refused the first time, but you can still look and find bargains for less money that present better value to you. Businesses do it all the time in regard to their office location and employees. If an employee is just average but demands a huge raise you evaluate your options and if you can find someone else to do his job you let him go. You bring in a young face who is excited by the opportunity, offer him fair compensation, and see how he develops. You compensate him accordingly if he delivers with an improved salary (Cahill, Arteta) and continue doing well without the previous employee who demanded too much money.

Moyes has said he has the money to make one more big signing and a couple of loan deals, but he is going to make sure he spends that money on the appropriate player and not waste it on an average player like Koumas who has little to no upside or room for improvement. The guy is going to be 28 in a month. I am not just happy with a top 10 finish, I want more. But I believe we have and will continue to build a squad capable of being somewhere in the top 6 every year. All I see is over rated, over priced players going from poor team to poor team, ie, Barton, Parker, Viduka, Koumas, Reo Coker.

David, many of us writing in here DON’T think we should pay a lot of money for average players who won’t improve the team. We think we need to have the money to pay for exceptional players who would actually improve the team. Like Manuel Fernandes, for example.

J J I think you’ll find Dubai is one of the most stable and westernised regions in the Arab world where an incredible growth by the people there has shown fruition and makes the place booming. They have had the balls for better want of terms to aspire and expand and in only a short number of years are attracting global interest and investment, I’d dare say they would turn any business around.

As for certain posters to this website accepting the mediocrity on offer or the bullshit and lies I ask why? The going rate for several players already sold during this window would have captured a certain Manuel Fernandes a player who for me brought an edge and artistry I haven’t seen at Goodison for years but others say overpriced, look further than domestic overpriced yard dogs and there are plenty of players who would strengthen and improve this squad and give us at least a fighting chance to challenge in competitions and the league, or we can sit back and stagnate, just like we have for years on the cusp of making a go of it.

Do you know what makes me laugh? fans stating, he’s not worth the money,Moyes knows what he’s doing,he won’t pay over the odds. Can I just tell you something? We have just paid £4m for an average player, who played in a shit side and was relegated with them.I think £4m was too much for him. But,I forgot, Moyes knows what he is doing.

Brian Waring, if you read my comment correctly you would have noticed that I said the lack of money doesn’t bother me so long as the current Top 10 status is maintained AND CONTINUES TO IMPROVE.

Yes I am happy with the current Top 10 status of the club but I also want it improved over the next few years.

Its taken 5 years and a modest budget to take Everton from a relegation side to a Top 10 side. Thats pretty good going.

The next step is to become a regular Top 5 side, thats going to take some more time. Moyes believes he can do it with time and the money currently available to him so I see no need to sell-out for fat sweaty, greasy dollars.

Fans like me don’t lack ambition we just realise that improvement takes time. Its not as easy as finishing one place higher every season. Sometimes you’ll be up sometimes down but so long as the club gradually moves in the right direction I am happy.

The league places have bounced up and down like a yo-yo under Moyes but he has undeniably taken us from relegation candiates to a Top 10 side.

We may bounch up and down in the Top 10 for the next couple of years but I won’t mind so long as I can see the improvement continuing, better players slowly being added, pieces of the jigsaw discovered.

You talk about ambition, how about this, I believe one day Everton will win the league under Moyes.

I believe he is the best manager in the country and despite the lack of money he will continue to unearth gems in the lower divisions, get the best out of moderately priced players and bring through talented youngsters. He will make a great side, it may take another 5 years or maybe 7 but one day I believe he will lift the Premiership crown with Everton.

And I will support him every inch of the way.

Neil Pearse, do I really believe we can continue to improve with a small budget when all around us are spending big? I certainly do.

When Alex Ferguson built his team how much money did he spend on Ryan Giggs? Lee Sharpe? Paul Scholes? The Neville Brothers? David Beckham? Remember how much he paid for Eric Cantona?

Moyes is doing a similar thing, turning low-budget gems like Arteta, Cahill & Lescott into Premiership stars and bringing through youngsters like Rooney, Hibbert, Osman, Vaughan, Anichebe and very soon Rodwell, Kissock etc..

A good manager can improve the team on a modest budget. And we have the best in the business.

I find it ironic that Tim Cahill is used as an example of a low cost useful player in the same breath as espousing the principal of not paying inflated prices for average players. Cahill was all but signed by Crystal Palace until their Chairman, in a similar fit of principal, refused to pay an Agents fee. I assume Everton had no such problem with paying the Agent. I may agree with not over-paying for average/unproven players but Everton seem disinterested or unable to buy established quality players.

Dutch,I.m getting a bit confused. You say "We may bounce up and down in the top 10 for the next couple of years, but I won’t mind as long as I can see the improvement continuing" So,if we finish 9th this season, how would that be improvement continuing?Surley, improvement is bettering the season you had before?

Dutch you maniac.
You state that. ’It’s better than some foreign corporation paying fat sweaty dollars for the soul of the club’. What the FUCK do you think Tesco are doing.
They are one of the most reviled companies out there. They target areas they have done their marketing research on and systematicaly destroy the local ecconomy.
As for selling our soul? We already have to Tesco you idiot. Do you think for one minute that they want to do this deal out of the goodness of their heart. TL is a blue, but also a buisnessman. He works for a multi-national that does not give a fuck for anything exept profits.
All you fucking fools who think that the Kirkby move is our saviour.
Open your eyes and look at the
bigger picture. We will be pawns for a corporate fucking parasite, a parasite that destroys local buisness communities for the sake of profitability.
It is a fucking disgrace. The peoples club. My Arse!!!!!

Brian Waring, my argument is that improvement isn’t just about finishing one place higher then the season before. Sure that would be nice but in the real world that doesn’t exist.

For example Everton have finished 4th, 11th and 6th over the last three seasons. You might look at that as inconsistant, personally I look at that as qualifiying for Europe two out of three, which is serious improvement.

We may find next season a bit disappointing, the Euro campaign will undoubtedly take its toll and the transfer market frustration hasn’t helped. Lets say Everton finished 9th.

Many of you would be calling for Moyes to resign but personally I would find that acceptable. Five years ago if you offered me 9th and a Euro Campaign I would have bitten your hand off.

Bouncing about is fine so long as the highs inch higher and the lowers are less extreme. Thats realistic improvement which Everton are currently experiencing.

It can be frustrating but its heading in the right direction. Its amazing to think that we now consider anything less then Top 10 a bad season. Hopefully a couple of years from now we will consider anything less then qualifiying for Europe as a bad season, then a couple of years after that anything less then a title challenge maybe.

I agree with the allusion to DM behaving somewhat childishly. Apparently the amount requested for David Nugent (an out and out Evertonian) was too much!! Is it too much to buy someone who may actually wish to play for the club rather than the money. Alan Smith is one who DM seems to have ambitions towards and of course as we all know he WAS Leeds through and through (a bit like Wayne Rooney being true blue). DM needs to wake up to the fact that other clubs are entering the race for players with inflated bank accounts and so if necessary DM should perhaps consider players from the lower divisions (if Everton do not possess the funds) who well might do the club some good (like Joleon Lescott perhaps).
