Today's Friendlies

Comments (4)

So Everton beat Bury 1-0 and N Ireland 2-0. Ok the games were friendlies and don't count for much but what's encouraging is that the goals were scored by James Vaughan, Kieran Agard and Lukas Jutkiewicz. All of them youngsters who will hopefully be able to play some part next season.

Add to that Rodwell, Anichebe, Kissock, Boyle, Morrison, Spencer and Irving and you start to get a little bit excited about the future.

Oh Dutch... will you never learn to wind yer neck in. I remember watching Paddy Boyle do a job for us last pre-season... and then go on to play precisely no role in the future season. And if you're actually talking about somne nebulous "future" way out there... well, anything is possible. Sorry but I am far from excited. In fact, I found both games interminably boring. What is this pre-season rubbish really for anyway? Do we really have to watch it? Do I really have to write it up? Why don't you do that for me... I really can't be arsed.

Wasn’t Paddy Boyle injured last season? Hardly a fair example.

Yes Nick, he was loaned out to get first team football and was playing quite well before getting a back injury forcing him to miss the whole season. Come on Michael, you should have known that.

I watched Paddy Boyle play the game at Preston last pre-season and he was head and shoulders above Naysmith but he was then shipped out on loan and came back injured. The trouble with friendlies is they tend to be formation tests AND trials and token games for the fringe or youth players, unless said fringe and youth players are exceptional it rarely means a guarantee of first team football.

From what I have heard the Bury game wasn’t exactly exciting either.
