Campbell in Defence

Firstly, it was good to see the boys back in action yesterday and both teams come away with a win and clean sheets. I see we've been linked with Sol Campbell today for £1m. Even though he's 33 and nearing the end of his career, I think he would be an immense signing. He has bags of experience in the Prem, the Champions League and International level. I would like to see him snapped up on a 2-year contract.
Our defence would be:
-
Left-Backs: Valente, Lescott, Boyle
-
Centre-Backs: Yobo, Campbell, Lescott, Stubbs, Jagielka
-
Right-Backs: Neville, Hibbert, Jagielka
We would have plenty of cover in all areas of defence.

I agree, he did a great job for Portsmouth last year, he even made Primus look good! It would also be interesting to see Joey as a holding midfield player with Sol partnering Lescott

If you have a look at the rumor, it would be Sol in and Joey out. Thats not something I think any of us would like.
I do agree he might be a decent signing for a few years IF Yobo stays though

What a load of twaddle. Moyes only buys young and why on earth would he offload Yobo to bring in an aging, slow Centre Half? It’s not DM’s MO.
The People should give up now. If it was a 20 year old Centre Half from Scotland, I might believe it. And why would Yobo want to go to Stuttgart?
Twaddle!

It may not be Moyes’s PREFERRED way of operating but, given the lack of funds, some cheaper, experienced guys to stand in every now and then and supplement the squad numbers would be a good idea. I would still make a bid for Fulham’s McBride for attacking cover for that very reason

We?ve got plenty of cover at the back & more than enough upfront for now with the young lads coming on well...we need midfielders-one on the left particularly.
Even if shandy begins to show his alleged potential if any of them take a knock or pick up a suspension, we?re gonna be struggling deffo.
Glad to see the back of Beats too...i hope we don?t get Roberts though he?s wank...surely this extra 3.5 million should give Moyes at least 8million or so to go and sign one or two decent midfielders-who knows even a playmaker
Not gonna hold my breath though..........

My advice to Moyes... Get Sol Campbell... I agree he would be a true quality purchase for us and he has two or three good years left in him at the top level..If you look at this one it has validity as we have lost Weir and Naysmith and leaving us with only one first team left back in Valente who is hardly ever fit sadly.. Lescott could fill in at full back and Yobo and Campbell and Stubbs can compete for a place at centre back. On ething with Campbell too is the experience that will come in vitally next season.. Cant really see Portsmouth letting him leave though, thats the big snag.

I can’t believe all this let’s get campbell crap.If he still had something to offer then why would pompey let him go?Also, isn’t he on something like £70 grand a week? How much of a drop in wages would he accept to play for us?

I see Riquelme has been linked again.

Brian Waring - Brian - who was the best player on the pitch in the Anfield Derby last year? - Answer Alan Stubbs - Age 35 - position - centre half. Score 0-0. Campbell would be a really good buy at 1.5m.

I am unsure about big Sol, yes he had an excellent season last year, is big, strong quick an has a wealth of European experience, but at the age of 33 I really think we should be looking at younger players.

If the fella still has pace for his age then he would be a great addition. With left back a problem yet to be resolved Lescott could still be shoved out there next season. No disrespect to Stubbs but pace has been his problem. If Yobo disappears for the African nations? cup, and if Lescott does shoved out at left back, having Stubbs and a pacy Cambell would solve things.Still though, selling Yobo and bringing in Cambell would be a huge step backwards

Just read an article that Stuttgart are chasing Yobo....
Is this why the recent interest in Sol Campbell perhaps?? Certainly hope not!!!!

Laurie, what,s your point? What has Stubbs in the derby got to do with buying Campbell? Apart from them both being in their 30s and nearing the end of their careers.
