Two signings

Comments (14)

Listen, to start off I am not mentioning my name in case this really does get messed up Everton style, which is more than likely. I spoke to David Moyes at the weekend. I dont know him, but I got chatting with him. I said to him, "What's going on, Dave. What's happening is embarrassing, you saying you're going to sign players and one turns up."

I said, "Here you go, here's £200 for your transfer kitty." (Yes I know £200 is going to get us nowhere, I was taking the piss). He replied, "Keep your money, you are going to be surpised this week with two shock signings, mark my words."

I asked who, but he wasn't coughing up. I'm sharing this information with you to give you a bit of hope in this gloomy time. He may be full of shit, he may be trying to shut me up, or he may be genuine (but then again he's lied a lot in the past). It could be Riqueleme, you never know, I truly hope so. It could be Campbell, it could be Fernandes or Smith (not such a shock).

You never know, though. I recall looking at the Everton website when Nuno Valente signed and it said, "International full back signs in." I was expecting Wayne Bridge or something but if Valente was such a huge coup then our two new signings look like Championship players. Watch this space...

Well I don’t believe it till I see those players in royal blue.

But anyhow I just wanted to say that when we signed Valente, he was a first-team player at Porto, who had won the Uefa-cup and Champions League at that time. He played for the Portuguese squad regularly. To act like he was a small signing and that the official site overstated on this one is IMHO really way off target. That Valente never really adapted to the PL and is very injury-prone nowadays is something that wasn’t known at the time of signing.

The official website is full of rubbish, no need to make things up to point that out :)

Valente may be getting on, but he?s still a class act and plays for an International team that regularly beats England. As for the rest of it.....after the Summer we?ve had any signing would be a shock signing! :)

Well done Ben for restraining yourself. I am actually one of the anti-Marshs’ but that piece was just......... I’m not saying there is not the possibly that we will make two signings, but I have heard and read hundreds of interviews by Moyes and that quote sounded absolutely nothing like the man.

There could be some truth to this.

Whilst I live in the cotswolds, I regularly travel up to the north-west to see my family. Whilst there, I often take my neighbours dog for a walk - my neighbour happens to be DM’s sister’s friends cousin. At the time she asked me if could take this other dog for a walk - her cousins’s friend who was a sister of DM. The dog happened to be painted blue so I believed it was the master’s himself. Anyway, whilst taking the dog for a walk, it happened to be limping - I checked its paw and stuck in between its pads was a a bit of old paper. Although battered and torn, the paper was obviously some kind of list. It wasnt complete, but the first three line’s that werent torn had:

Beckham (crossed out in pencil)
Riquel...(torn at this point)
Ron...(torn at this point)

I thus deduce these are our top 3 targets this season. Really, you can believe me.

I think you’re being a little unfair on Nuno Valente. The lad has more silverware in his cupboard, possibly with the exception of Phil Neville, than the rest of the squad put together. He has struggled with injuries and never really got going last season but if you look closely at his contributions (getting caught in possession at Charlton excluded compounded by Joey putting his boots on) you will see that he is a very classy, if getting on a bit, full back.
The fact that you didnt rate him was perhaps because you werent familiar with the Portugese national team or their league where Nuno had played a vital role in winning a number of trophies with Porto etc. When he was signed, he was indeed, an international player in a team that, yes, does regularly beat the England team.
I for one, hope that he can come good this season to allow Lescott back into his rightful position.
Give me a a couple more players with Nuno’s skill and experience please to blend in with the lescott’s and the other crop of youngsters and we could go places.

My God, yet another of those concrete rumours!

I was in a boozer the other day with my old mate the 6ft white rabbit and he told to get up off the floor, wipe the puke off my chin and say hello to our latest signing.....He was adamant that Herr Hitler was still good left-back material, even though his last European campaign had ended disastrously. Together with the other new signings, Lord Lucan, Shergar and Kurt Cobain he reckoned it was back four to be feared.

Pass me the Valium someone.....

Are the two new signings Pistone and a fella from the youth team?

Wow, now that is just good business, after all we do need extra numbers in our squad.

Tom.You do talk some rubbish mate.
Everyone knows Hitler was a right sided midfielder. As for Shergar and Cobain, they are being linked with Newcastle.
Lucan though is another matter.
He goes missing a lot during the game, so i don’t rate him.

I agree with Lue. Valente is a class act. I remember watching Portugal’s games at the World Cup (was it last year?) and Nuno would regularly be sweeping forward right up to the opposition’s box - alongside Ronaldo on many occassions. He also put in a number of decent crosses for their forwards. He is one of the best in business, if he can stay fit.

On a different subject - what about Tiny Tim’s form at the Asia Cup ? Australia are in the Cup entirely due to Timmy. 2 goals and 3 assists !

Come on you Blues !

My brother-in-law?s accountants firm represents the sister of David Moyes? cousins next door neighbour. According to her, Moyes? wife?s lover, who is friends with Bill Kenwright?s neice, who also happens to be a season ticket holder, and also sits next to Phil Neville?s window cleaner, these 2 signings are probably imminent. Unless, of course, the original source, called Anon? is wrong. In that case, this is just another bullshit made-up rumour!

The start of the two signings, well surely not? Johann Vogel on a free transfer (the only way I can call this a shock is that Everton have actually signed someone). Maybe thats not one of the two, maybe it is, we will see. Ben Brown, watch this space...
