Steven Pienaar

I see we're being linked with a loan move for Pienaar, now there's a signing I'd certianly be happy with. He's a great attacking player, he's got a good eye for a defence splitting pass and can chip in with a goal. Makes you wonder though, how do you fit all these attack-minded midfielders in a team?
If we sign Vogel that leaves us with another defensive midfielder as well. Wonder if Moyes plans to play Neville at left-back this season.
With these signings, I think it shows we have absolutely feck all money and we're scraping by on loan signings and free transfers. So be it, if it works then who's complaining. We can only wait and see...

OK... it's a rumour and it means nothing really... but Steven Pienaar on loan with potential for buy next season (hmmm, Fernandes) really would be the coup of the summer!

Lest we not forget how Arteta arrived at the club....

According to the Sky Sports website the deal is close to completion with knowing Everton he will end up somewhere else, if we can get himhe would be a great buy though.

So here we are well into July and only Jagielka to show for a very quiet summer on the transfer front. Then today we're 'strongly' linked with Johann Vogel and Steven Pienaar, two great signings if they come off.
Plenty of midfield cover for next year, plus Pienaar is a cracking player ? saw him a few times for Ajax and the kids got it (as they say).
Vogel would be good cover for the old bald Irish fella... oh err, Lee Carsley to the rest of you... and Pienaar would be well used alongside any midfield combination really.
Good news if they come off I'd say, now all we need is a full-back and we'll be good to go..

I’m encouraged but very much waiting to see if these come off. The Pienaar lad looks quality.
On a more cynical note - where has all the money gone!? We finished higher than we MUST have budgeted for last year and with the increased TV revenue we still seem to only afford freebies. Maybe it’s coincidence ’cos I certainly wouldn’t have wanted us to fork out £17m on Koumas, Richardson and Richardson but still a bit worrying.

As a South African lad all I can do is to add to the glowing list of endorsements vis a vis young Mr. Pienaar. Sprang to prominence as a teenager shackling an (in his pomp, mind) Viera for Ajax vs. Arsenal in the Champions League, but went off the boil afterward a tad. The man has oodles of skill - no two ways about that - and is still regarded as one of the best players this country has yet produced. With the right kind of guidance I think he would be an excellent signing (provided he can adjust to the physical demands of the Premiership).
Get him in, like!

Its funny how the prospect of a signing albeit on loan or for a free can raise the optimism of the fan-base. I would hope that both player’s can be assets in the season to come, however both speak volumes about the state of the Club financially when you consider the money currently sloshing about in the game. I am personally appalled at the lack of support that David Moyes has received from Kenwright and Wyness during this summer, to be shopping in the bargain basement is both an insult to Moyes and more importantly the fans.

Whilst I agree Peter that it’s disappointing that Moyes’ transfer budget appears to have been so limited (although lest we forget there’s still plenty of time to spend money yet). I don’t care that Vogel and Pinear (lest we forget they haven’t signed yet) are no-fee players. It’s how good the player is that counts not how much they cost. It may be the case that Vogel or Pinnear should be the one’s costing £5m but that’s just more fool on Sunderland and Wigan for shelling that much on lesser players and well done to Moyes and co if they manage to pull off a good couple of signings on a cheap.

He is a good player. I used to watch him when he played in that attacking football Ajax team. That team included the likes of Ibrahimavic, Van der Vaart and our own Andy Van der Meyde.
His career seems to have taken a step down since he came onto the seen as a wonderkid but we just have to look at Arteta. He came to rangers with a big reputation yet flaatered to decieve. Now look at him our best player. I also think Pienaar is similar to Arteta. More of a central attacking player who can also play left and right wing. bags of skill and pace.

Peter, this is good business. The goal is not to spend more than everyone else in business, it is too spend the money more wisely. If we can get talented players in for less money than the likes of Sunderland and Wigan are paying for average talent, what is wrong with that? I’m just baffled at how people can only see negative. The Vogul thing isn’t just a rumour, the club have said he is due for a medical, and Sky sports are reporting the Pienar story, not some silly gossip website. These two signings would bring the total signings of the club this summer to 4, with Jagielka, and Lucas signed earlier. And we still haven’t spent hardly an money!!!

Pienaar deal is off. His agent has ?said there is no truth in the rumours?. Don?t get excited just yet. Sounds like the deal is no where near being done.

I don’t want to sound like a wet blanket, but the lad looks to frail for me.
I have seem him play for Ajax and he looks like a great little player, but will he ’cut the mustard’ in England?

I read it on NSNO.co.uk apprently his agent has been talking to kickoff magazine. Pienaar doesn?t look strong enough for the prem.

Great news(if it comes off).
I rate this lad as way, way better than Fernandes. Saw him play for Holland a couple of times on tv and he and Wes Sneidjer were the best of the young Dutch boys.
Should snap him up on a long term deal while we have the chance though because once he does the business his price will zoom-if Reo Coker is worth 8 Mill then this lad is worth 20!

Shaka, the same NSNO.co.uk that last week said Richardson was having a medical and signing autographs outside bellfield, along with Nolan, who was in Asia at the time with Bolton. I trust Skysports before nsno.co.uk, sorry mate.

I don?t see that using "free transfers and loan signings" is scraping by. Player loans between clubs in the same league and indeed overall, may have a limited shelflife but free movement between clubs with the only cash negotiation being wages and contract termination/compensation most certainly looks the way of the near future. Isn?t that part of the reason for introducing transfer windows? As for it being a sign that we are skint, well there are any number of them so it is not something that is in much doubt, is it?

I have to admit I had my doubts there for awhile, but could Moyes do it again?
Last year his buys and the timing thereof were nothing short of awesome. Now we’re being linked with...
Vogel, a box to box CDM who has every attribute of Michael Ballack, and get this... he is faster, hungrier, younger, and a lot less expensive.
In terms of sheer ability Maradona’s protege (Riquelme)would be the best player to have ever pulled on an Everton Shirt.
And Pienaar who will become as able bodied in the Premiership as Arteta or Adriana Lima (depending who you would like to see more of), should not be written off.
He is also the player most likely to raise Andy VD Meyde from the dead.
SIGN EM, BRING ON THE CAMPAIGN, IN MOYES WE TRUST!

Ray said.....pienaar is south african not dutch mate. Thinking of someone else?
Nsno copying a quote from his agent a week ago when he was linked with man city
whoever said vogel is better than ballack...i cant agree with either that or in fact your point on age as vogel is 30..

All these people whining about us not spending loads of money are pathetic, would you rather we spent 3.25m on Paul Konchesky, 5.3 on Koumas, 5 million on Chopra, 3 million on Gary O’Connor,8.5 on Reo Coker !!! jesus, someone even spent nothing on Titus Bramble !!
The fact is there is no league for who spends the most, all that matters is your league position. If we do have money to spend but arent wasting it on complete shit like other clubs seem intent on then fair play to Moyes, BK and Bully for holding their nerve. If we are skint then fair play to Moyes for putting up with it and fuck off BK and Bully for being useless. Vogel looks like an estute bit of business really, I mean is Reo-Coker 8.5 million pounds better than him ? If we get Pienaar on a loan to buy deal would it really be that terrible or would it mean that if he doesnt cut it he will have cost basically nothing? And lets not forget that we brought in Yobo and Arteta on similar deals !!
