Ashburton Grove comparison

I found this interesting article regarding the £390M Emirates Stadium. Apparently, of the £390M budget, £125M was allocated towards the building of the actual stadium, with the rest "going towards relocation costs which have increased due to the delay of the project". This would reflect the very high costs of developing a stadium within London, and if true would put the reported £75M total cost of the Kirkby development into a slightly different light.
What is also apparent from
this other article is the incredibly lengthy process that Arsenal had to go through to raise the capital for the project, which included a £260M loan, £15M catering contract, £100M sponsorship deal from Emirates, and multiple new housing developments. With all that in mind, I can understand the attraction of a relatively simple deal with Tesco and Knowsley Council.
Hope this is of interest.

Thanks, this is the kind of info we need to make a well-weighted vote. Good job!

I don’t think it will be you Dave going down to the town planning office going through all the legal crap, so you can safely leave it to someone else... rarely is the easiest option the best.

Good work Dave , very interesting mate the worrying thing for us now regardless of the cost of building the damn thing is were never going to own it ! according to Fat Boy Wyness . But at least we can be sure that the stadium isnt being built on the cheap also if we take into account Tesco’s constructors will probably be more reasonably priced than McAlpine contruction !but i dont think it matters what us the fans think anyway cos my guess is the board’s mind is already made up . 1 last point/question ... if we dont own the stadium how can we sell the naming rights ?

An interesting thing and in my opinion very good thing that has come out of Wyness’ mouth about the proposed new stadium is that it will not be a bowl and will be like the Cologne stadium, with the fans close to the pitch. This was my big worry about a new stadium, losing the atmosphere that Goodison provides, not that everyone in Liverpool will start supporting Liverpool because our home has moved 4 miles. And leasing a stadium is a very common thing in today’s sporting world.

Hi Nick, I wasn’t really talking about the legal options here, more the financial complexity of putting together a deal for a stadium without the Tesco contribution, a complexity which is probably beyond our current board! Also I didn’t make it clear, I meant the attraction to Mr Wyness of a simple deal, NOT to me!

Has anybody found out what the annual cost of the 199 year lease is and who the landowner is (Tesco or Knowsley or BK/Bully???.
I guess Walton locals can at least look forward to a big new Tesco by 2010!!

In response to Coventry Toffee’s last query;
We will own the stadium but not the land its on. Hence we can call it what the heck we want!!
