Lukas Bags a Brace

The reserves beat Munich Under 23s today. The scoreline was 3-1 with new signing Lukas Jutkiewicz scoring twice and Bjarni Vidarsson getting the other. It amazes me that some people refuse to accept Jutkiewicz as a new signing. The lad cost a transfer fee and has been given a squad number. He is the second new player Everton will have next season.

In all honesty Dutch, it was only a preseason reserves match. But I do agree with your disbelief of people not realizing that this guy was a new signing. He is an 18 year old who, as you say, has been given a squad number. Sure he is young, but don’t we want a mix of young and veteran players to be here?

He is a squad player and we do see him as a squad player but he is not ready. He has scored 2 goals against a german reserve side and agaist bury. And while this is promising these sides are nothing like real premiership sides.

Anichebe looked a much better player against bury and he is nowhere near the finished article. Both Jutkiewicz and Vidarsson are not ready to become squad players. We should not be having to depend on kids who should be developing their game on loan or in the reserves.

Connor, I don’t think anyone is saying that we are depending on them.

Exactly nobody is saying we will have to depend on Jutkiewicz, all I’m saying is refusing to accept him as our second summer signing is silly. He was transferred and is a squad member.

Thats two new players so far this summer, and if Vogel and Pienaar join that would make four. That sounds a bit better but better not count our sheep just yet considering Everton’s history of signing players, there’s always a last minute hitch around the corner.

Your right Dutch. I misread the question.

IMO, these two young lads are definetly to be considered squad players.

At their age, they should be pushing to get in and around the first team squad, if only making the bench even.

Players can still develop in the reserves during the season and probably develop a bit more by spending time with the first time.

I for one look forward to the day these lads can make a worthwile appearance.

I seem to recall another youngster called Plessis (?) a couple of years ago scoring a lot of goals for the reserves etc and yet he never made the grade. We have a pool of decent youngsters like Jutkiewicz, Vidarson, Scott Spencer and the lad from Arsenal but given that we also have two slightly older lads vyeing for a spot it may be a while before any of them brakthrough.
