Krøldrup fuck-up

Comments (14)

See this info from the Times, Krøldrup comes top of the list of worst transfers, nice one Davey!

1. Per Krøldrup, Udinese to Everton, £5m, June 2005

Everton paid a fortune for the Denmark central defender but then showed no interest in actually playing him amid suggestions they had suddenly discovered he couldn?t head the ball. Made one league appearance before returning to Italy.

Kroldrup was a bad mistake, never known a player not able to head a ball, but Tim Cahill (£2m), Mikel Arteta (£2m) and Joleon Lescott (2.5m) are works of genius in the transfer market. Surely three of the best bargains the Premiership has ever had?

All managers have good and bad transfers, luckily most of Moyes have been good.

I agree it was a waste of £5 million but the worst transfer?? Think Jose Mourinho might have something to say about that,£30 mil Shevchenko anyone?

Yeah.. bad buy. Cost 5m sold for 3.5m= Lost 1.5m on him.

Same week? Marcus, bought 400k, sold 2m (+goals) = made 1.6m by selling Bent.

fook off Moyes!

I think why they are saying it is the worst signing Dan,is because,he played one game and was then sold on because he couldn’t head a ball.

Put it this way it cost a total of £11 million to bring Kroldrup, Arteta, Cahill and Lescott to Goodison.

One of them lost the club £1.5M, the other three could now be sold for £10 million each.

I see that Fiorentina tried to offer Arsenal Kroldrup in part exchange for Ljungberg. If that happened, it would of been a great way of us of breaking into the ’big 4’.

How the hell did he becomesurvive as a centre back for so long if he couldnt head a ball? I dont really remember the game he played other than it was against villa and we got pissed on 4-0

Did anyone who slags Kroldrup off actually see him play ?????
I went to the pre-season game against the (nit very) mighty Motherwell when he signed, and the lad looked the most accomplished player on the pitch by a country mile.

After suffering injury problems, the lad was on the bench for something like 17 games in a row, and never got a minutes’ premiership football.

He was then shoved in against Villa when the whole team played shite, and appeared single handedly to shoulder the blame.

His last game for us was a cup tie, and his distribution was excellent, even from headed clearances.

I think the reason he went was because he didn’t fit in with Moyes’ preferred type of player who rushed around like blue arsed flies looking busy (but achieving nothing). Much like AVDM and Beattie last night.

I disagree with the worst buy ever tag because I don’t think he was given a fair crack, but concede that Italy might suit his game better.

Before all the up in arms guys reply, remeber another class act called Matteo Ferrari we let return to Italy??? He wasn’t injury prone, he got an appalling injury against Arsenal and was out for months, and in the same season a guy called Guillame Plessis came on loan for 6 months to get splinters in his arse.

I think these examples say more for Moyes’ selection policy at the time rather than a statement of how good they were as players.

You dont become an accomplished Serie A centre back without the ability to head a ball. Anyone who believes those rumours surely knows absolutely nothing about football. There are other rumours as to why he was frozen out, and they may be closer to the mark.

What is this that Kroldrup could not do headers?I have seen him extensively in Serie A and he is a most accomplished performer.Certainly,he occasionally gets caught in possession but he is the best defensive distributor in italy.just study the stats.
The real truth is that the manager signed the wrong player without ever seeing him play!

Jeremy, do you want to expand on those other rumours?

The rumours I heard were in similar vein to those ciculated recently re McFadden.True or not,
in my book,VdM was a far worse signing than Kroldrup.I suspect moyes had never met either of them before they were signed!

I think Kroldrup prefered to play football not Moyes’s hoofball
