Pienaar agrees Toffees switch

Sky Sports is now reporting that the player has agreed to terms with us and passed the medical, so it now looks as though we have got a potentially exciting and skillful attacking midfielder able to play on the left. It is true that he didn't have a great season last year in Germany, but the guy had done very well in all seasons prior to that and surely could be very valuable to us linking up with Arteta in the midfield.

A midfield consisting of Arteta, Cahill, Pienaar looks very good to me. Now I just hope we can finish this Vogel deal to get him in there as our holding midfielder. This midfield would have to be seen as an improvement from last season, maybe now just get Smith on a loan to cover for Vaughan while he is out?

Thank heavens - when the ink dries the ’is he going to sign anybody?’ nonsense has to stop - doesn’t it?

And if anybody wants to pick the team for him, let them garner the appropriate experience and pin their selection on the dressing room door.

He seems to be achieving what most of us wanted, not a change of personnel but an all-round strengthening for hopefully what will be a long hard season of getting up there to compete with the rich kids. If any of these new lads - looking good to me - can’t play alongside Lee and Leon, then DM will have made an error of judgement. Let’s hope not.

At Last!

I’m made, if this lad can capture the form of his Ajax days, he’s be a fixture on the wing for us! no doubt about it!!

Now for Vogal! He’d be another great signing, bags of european experience and is on a mission to make the swiss squad for the euro championships!

If we get Alan Smith and maybe Fernandes back.... on loan of for a fee, then It will have been a great summers work by Moyesey!

SO MUSH FOR ALL THE NEGATIVES !!!!

Before we all celebrate his signing he still has to get a work permit. One concern is that he only has one international cap, which isn’t exactly meeting the requirement of appearing in 75% of the countries games within the last year. Hopefully he can win the permit and be a great addition to the squad.

He has 21 caps not 1. The bbc got it wrong

Actually that number of Caps is wrong. I saw that too, but it is not correct. Check this link for South Africa’s national team. It says he has 14 appearances, and that only goes up to 2005.

I’m not countering your number Nick, I think we were typing our messages at the same time. I was correcting the 1 cap posting. 21 is even better.

I’ve heard some people say that he failed to fill the boots of Rosicky and didn’t score in 25 appearances, etc...etc... Well Arteta was in similar pickle, cost 2 million quid plus when we did sign him, and now you’d struggle to buy him for less than 10-12million in todays market; I hope this guy goes the same way, he has all the attributes.

If the truth be known I’ll be not so pensive about handing over my hard earned for a Season Ticket if there will be someone other than Arteta who can do something different with a ball (Pienaar) and someone in the defensive midfield role who won’t just panic and welly it ala Carsley/Neville (though Carsley not as bad for that), by that I mean Vogel.

COYB!

Yes ive seen the above link i think he has been pretty regular since 05. I got my info from wikipedia south african national football team. Wiki is usually correct for that type of thing.

Ive found acouple of clips with the usually dodgy music on youtube as well

I think after a quiet summer we can allow ourselves a little optimism regarding Pienaar, that is IF he gets a permit with only one cap! Found this archive on BBC sport: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/africa/2779947.stm [It's wrong; see above - Ed]

I just wish he was left-footed. We are in desperate need of a left-footed, left-sided player that can cross balls in from that side.
