Carpe Diem, Blues

Even though I like many other Evertonians love Goodison Park, the facts are that we must seize this opportunity to move to the new stadium. Dave Prentice in his column today made a point regarding the lack of investment in Everton being down to the fact that Investors are scared off through,

i) The massive shadow of Liverpool FC, which will get even bigger (a reason that I have long suspected) and

ii) The amount of continued investment needed to sustain the viability of an antiquated stadium.

If we move, we will then become a far more attractive proposition on both counts for investors. If we stay in the shadow of the new Anfield, the club will really start going backwards. Looking at the option of development, then the costs and planning delays will really hit the club finances.

If after the period of exclusivity ends, Liverpool council can get their act together (which given their shortsightedness on other projects is highly dubious), and offer Everton an alternative site, then where is the funding going to come from even if they give us the land for free?... More time and escalating costs... Bearing this in mind, the stadium in Kirkby, after having seen today's pictures really does look an opportunity too good to miss. As much as I hate to say it, Goodison has had its day. I'm sick of spending ten minutes queuing for the toilets/snack bars, or just to get out the ground.

I've never known Everton to get a lucky break before. Maybe we as supporters dont all recognise it when it comes along.

Karl, your quite correct in what you say, if we find a new site in the Liverpool boundry, or decide to re-vamp Goodison, whose going to finance it?
We have no big financial backer, except the offer from Tesco, the choice is in the hands of the people who know, because the response from the fans is so divided, someone has to make the decision.
And as much as I hate to admit it, its got to be the board.

Karl,
I agree that GP could use improvement but what is wrong with you? How long have you been going to watch Everton? When was the toilet/queueing situation ever any better? In fact it was a lot worse in the past, if you’re so sick of waiting a whole TEN!minutes for a pint then why bother? Just stay off the booze, or else stay at home and watch some more crap property ladder on the box.
What if the queues at project Kirkby turn out to be just as long? How sick are you gonna be then?

Marc , Ive been going since 1973 and have not missed a home game since. You’re right queueing was worse in the past, but that was because we had a lot more supporters (standing) in the ground. The point I was trying to make was a general one of the lack of top class facilities and being treated like second class citizens(upper Bullens/upper Glwadys etc where you can hardly move)). If you have been to new Highbury, C/Manchester stadium or even to some extent our Park end you must know what I mean. The main reason I feel we should move is for attracting investment and anything else is secondary.
