Injury Prone Vaughan

Comments (26)

Vaughan is loved by all despite only scoring 4 goals in two seasons while Beattie is hated even though he has scored 13 goals in the same time. I wonder are we excusing Vaughan because of his age? If Vaughan was 10 years older would we be so understanding?

Let's be brutally honest, AVDM has played a bigger part for Everton over the last couple of seasons. I think Vaughan has potential, he could be great but the fact is over the last two seasons his injury record would put Pistone to shame.

Vaughan is paid every week just like the other players but for some reason nobody complains that he's been unavailable for so many games or that he's scored less goals than Beattie and McFadden.

Personally I don't care about a players age, I believe in giving the player the respect he deserves for his performances on the field. Regardless of age every player in the squad is expected to pull their weight, its a small squad and there's no room for passengers.

What a silly post comparing players like that, and trying to make out that Beattie is somehow getting a raw deal from the fans who quite rightly demand a helluvalot more from him. He was signed for millions, and had an established reputation as a goalscorer, his whole attitude and body language are put to shame evey time young Vaughantakes to teh field ahead of him, who's desire outshines his many-fold.

Yet Vaughan is just a kid, and I can't help wondering that his exuberance is a factor in his propensity to pick up such debilitating injuries. Methinks he might need to learn how to be a little bit more controlled in the application of his strength and power.

As for AvdM, how you reckon he has played a bigger part than Vaughan is well beyond me. Quit stirring!

And James V has scored 5 in 7 starts, compared to James B’s 15 in 58...

The big difference between Vaughan & Beattie is, the younger one gets more involved, and maybe he might be injury prone, but he still has more skill than the Over priced, and over rated £6 million gonna be good some day has been.

I think you are being a bit harsh on Vaughan Paul. His last 2 injuries have been un-lucky.And to compare him with a shit over-priced no mark.Out of order.

Paul, whilst I agree with your sentiments in principle, Beattie was signed as a proven premiership goal scorer for a fee and a salary which reflected that status - yet Beattie has not delivered.

Even if the stats given were true, Vaughan is still a youngster learning his trade and has delivered more in the few matches he has played in than Beattier almost ever has in a Toffee shirt! Almost because when Beattie thought he was in with a shout for an England recall he played out of his skin.

Paul.....you forgot to mention that most players Vaughan’s age would not even have reached the first team squad by now.

The first injury that Vaughan picked up was poorly handled by the staff in charge of the England side and the injury iteself was one that up until recent times was career ending for any sportsman.

He came back , looked sharp in pre-season and now has picked up a really unlucky injury that will cost us his services for a long time to come - a complete freak of an injury !

I take very nearly the opposite view from Paul and I believe this lad will become one of the great Everton strikers.

Trying to tell the future is never easy so I might be completely wrong.

It is all about opinions but if Beattie bangs in 30 Premier goals in the coming season , it will be more than fine by me.

I just can’t see that happening !

Despite all that , what is this nonsense about hating our own players ?

No matter what creed or colour they are from , give them your full backing !

Away and stop being silly !

Bit of a daft post that Paul. The lad has been so unlucky with injuries but you can tell when he does play he has got so much more about him than Beattie ever will. And is strike rate is far superior. The lad would have lit up Goodison this season without doubt. We will sorely miss him whilst out. The resons for the supporters loving him over Beattie? Its obvious mate and there is no comparison.

I’m as gutted for JM I think he was on course to have a blinding season this year and I think your way out of line comparing him to Beattie(AKA son of wyness) I think Beattie had a great opotunity at EFC and squandered it ,JM on the other hand, has Enthusiasm and verve and yes he isn’t the finished article and if it hadn’t been for un-lucky injuries he would and I’m sure will be a star at EFC for years to come. and i agree i think thats got to be the worst post I’ve ever read on TW and thats saying somthin, over and out

One of the poorest postings ever, can you remember the last time Beattie got himself into a position where he was likely to get injured? Let me remind you it was on the piss in a Brum nightclub and off the pitch. I’d rather have Vaughan’s attitude and hard work that that overpriced tub of lard anyday; one wins headers, tackles and has a turn of pace on him the other simple fails on all three of those counts.

Paul, you are a bit of a idiot aren’t you? Perhaps even a redshite muppet on a wind up?

You started daft and eventually ended in farce when you compared Vaughan’s injury record to Pisstakes. Doh!!

I don’t even need to argue against your post as it is so daft.

Have a nice day celebrating "your" teams exciting win yesterday.

Vaughan is not injury prone! He has been unlucky with 2 freak injuries that another player wouldn’t experience in a career.

My definition of injury prone is someone like Pistone or VDM who seem to have the same problem re-occur.
Finally, the reason so many fans are gutted is because we could all see how disappionted he was to be injured. The boy wants to play and play well for the team he obviously cares a lot about. Its that affinity to the fans that endears him to us.

Another example of someone bending over backwards to justify a Moyes signing.

Vaughan is a promising youngster coming through the club ranks. He works his socks off, he gets injured. The likes of Beattie are expensive pampered prima donna failures who like the idea of being a footballer better than putting in the graft of genuinely successful players.

Beattie’s job is to score goals and he doesn’t do it. If Everton were half the club some people believe we are we would have shown him the door long ago. We have to put up with him because we are unable or unwilling to get a replacement.

We are ’big’ club in Europe approaching the season with one quality striker, two promising youngsters (one injured) and......

I maybe didn’t make my point as well as I hoped. I’m not saying Beattie is a better player, all I meant is that at least he’s available every week, he may be shit but at least he’s there.

If Vaughan wasn’t so young no way would we accept 7 games in two seasons. If Vaughan was 30 and had a record like that we would all be calling for him to be shown the door. You all know thats true.

Vaughan is excused his awful appearance record over the last two seasons because he’s young, is that fair?

I love Vaughan, he’s got so much potential but his injury record is awful, if he only plays another half dozen games this season, are we going to continue to turn a blind eye to this player not pulling his weight?

Thats the point Paul.Vaughan is a young lad and has years ahead of him,so he has got plenty of time to fill the potential we all see in him.I agree if he was Beatties age and at his standard,I probalby wouldn’t be happy if he was injury prone. But,at the end of the day the last 2 injuries were unlucky.I just think his enthusiasim gets the better of him sometimes, and with experience he will learn he doesn’t have to fly into every challenge.

are you for real??

the lad did his knee cruciate ligament. Its not something he did or didnt do. At one point there were doubts he could play again.

He fought back for a whole year- and it is a fight too. 12 months of hard work.

Then he has ths happenned. I am not sure you are aware just what r were the the two cruciate ligaments are in the knee, but it is just about the most serious injury any athlete of any sort can have.

The lad is absolutely fearless on the pitch and is a credit to himself every time he pulls on the shirt.

As for 7 games in 2 seasons. He was 17 years old two seasons ago..he was 19 last week!! its called man management/ If he was thrown in before he was ready he could have got spoilt. Moyes has handled him brilliantly.

Are you a kopite like winding us up?

"not pulling his weight"

a total insult to the lad. total insult. How do you know how hard he worked to get back??

I hope James Vaughan doesnt read that post. Get real, Vaughan has a great future at Everton, things havent worked out for BT and that’s a shame but the future lies with players like Vaughan and Anichibe coming through the ranks. We will miss JV in the coming months.

25   Posted 22/07/2007 at 01:55:34

He was fit for more then that.

Moyes did not pick him because

A) He wanted tomake sure he was training for a couple of months after the injury

b) Two years ago last week was James Vaughans 17th birthday.

That Arteta is shit too you know... and so was Dixie Dean that wasteful qunt.
