Optimistic Blue!

Comments (10)

Firstly, I would like to say as an out-of-town Blue that I think the "Kirkby Project" is a fantastic opportunity ? one that's too good to pass on. I know that many of my fellow blues who live in the city may feel differently but I would travel to the moon if it meant I could watch my heroes in blue play.

without wanting to upset or call any blues it does appear on these web sites that most ( not all ) of the pro kirkby fans are from out of the merseyside area , I have yet to meet anyone for the move and speaking to my mates who work on all the big building sites around the city they say the same, Its not the extra travel either, its the history and for people to say forget that are talking shit

I’m all for a move and have lots of fans who are, what the fuck are you talking about. If we dont move now we never will, get with it FFS

No need for the agressive attitude Johhno, the poster is simply airing his views.

The question I always have when people mention history and whatnot, is that if we were to move to another ground within Liverpool, why would it be any different than moving to Kirkby, we will still be moving out of the Old Lady, would we not?

Some of you lads obviously just love sitting in queues for an hour or more to get out of car parks! You’ll probably enjoy queues for shuttle buses and queues at train stations too. I bet your favourite away trip is Bolton, just so you can still be queuing to get home an hour after the game. You’re going to love Kirkby then.

As for history, moving away from Goodison will change the whole nature of Everton fundamentally. But moving out of the City will end an association going back to St Domingos. If you don’t think that’s a problem, where do you draw the line?

Kirkby will have a far better system for entering/exiting a football stadium than anywhere within Liverpool. It is being purposely designed for high density traffic and motorway links plus a tramway.Everton need to move for investment purposes. We have to face the reality that the money people only see one club in Liverpool. There is massive investment in Kirkby at the moment whether were going to be there or not.We cant trust Liverpool council.Remember Kings Dock? The Tramline we were promised for that? where is it now?..At least the club have given us a vote and will abide by it.No other club that has moved has ever done that.

If we need to move it has to be right100% end of.The liars at the club have not even come out and said why we cannot develop over a few seasons Goodison in the same way as Villa have done theirs in a similar area too and dont say we could not fund that because that is bollocks its a cheap fix end of and this is another point I have said we have people like johnno calling fellow blues, is that how it should be? we should be in it together and this move has split everyone because of the pricks running the club who have a history of lying and treat us like children , so many of us just cannot trust them with such a big decision especially some aberdeen fan who has been here five fucking minutes , anyway off the pub with 20 other anti krkby blues all season ticket holders who know what our history is about

This is the rub..... not all Evertonians are as dedicated as Michael cummins. We are being sold the kirkby proposals on the assertion that it will increase revenue streams etc. I cannot see how a more inconvenient venue will entice more fans in the long term. The novelty value should attract big crowds to start with, but once the honeymoon is over, and we have all experienced the grid lock at this peripheral site how many will be deterred , 10%? 25%?. Public transport and access routes are much reduced on Walton (Yes even with the motorway) This is a logistical constant for our city. People keep saying it’s only 4-5 miles That could be an extra half hour to an hour on public transport with so few direct routes from all parts of Liverpool.... night matches versus Darlington in the league cup could break low attendance records. Travelled to/from Kirkby in rush hours for 6 years, people need to try it before they judge this as utopia.

Tom Hughes got it spot on when he said ’once the honeymoon is over’. This is what I fear. The way I see it, how will David Moyes receive an extra 10m a season. We cannot get 35,000 for the games against Fulham, Boro etc let alone 50,000. Evertonians go to to the game to watch the club they love, whether that means sitting behind a stansion or not. I really cannot see where the extra 10-15,000 are going to appear from

Have many of the people objecting actually been to Kirkby or used the East Lancs or M57 in that area? More to the point have you been past the site?

If not try it. Access is not that difficult at the moment and I’m sure the roads (additional entraces and exits to the site) would be improved.

Don’t assume it will be like the debacle that Bolton have.

I do it regularly, and did it every working day for 6 years. The junctions are grossly inadequate, and choked practically every rush hour with traffic that would be a tiny fraction of a matchday surge. I was also involved in the merseytram proposals for Kirkby and am familiar with all the transport infrastructure. It will be worse than Bolton for several reasons. Firstly, it is not directly linked to the main conurbation by the motorway, but by a dual carriageway that is at or near capacity daily. There are only a handfull of other lanes that pierce the M57 from the Liverpool side and the vast majority of match-going Evertonians. Also, it’s much bigger than the Reebok.
