Wyness Wanderers

There was a very interesting turn of phrase in the latest dictat from Keith Wyness: "There have been calls from Liverpool City Council for the Blues to remain in their council-controlled area." Notice, he could have said "remain in the city" or "remain in Liverpool" but instead he referred to Liverpool as the "council-controlled area." Why? Because he would have had to admit that he is taking the club away from the city and no-one wants to cop to that. We aren't really leaving Liverpool. Wyness Wanderers are leaving the Liverpool City Council controlled area. That's a relief.

I’m afraid, Peter, I can see where Wyness is coming from....the "city" council has done nothing for Everton and have left it till the 11th hour (and 59 mins)to get involved. We need to remember that a large number of followers dont come from the city of Liverpool...30% of season ticket holders are from the Sefton area. I understand the desire to stay in the L4 area but anywhere on Merseyside will do for me. We should stick two fingers up at the city council.

Yeah, let’s cut off our nose to spite our face, Ian!!

Please elaborate Steve Mc.

I am against Kirkby but understand why EFC would consider it financially viable, however those corrupt toerags in the LCC can kiss my hairy arse.

LCC have suddenly out of the blue (no pun intended) suggested three sites (if was four not only 3 days ago, another lie?) that are viable for a new ground. It’s a bit strange that these were never mentioned before and it seems now that Bestbuy? want in aswell.

They are liars, everyone knows that councilors and politicians are liars and this is simply a face saving excercise by the LCC to appease any angry fans. It is a "Look we tried to offer Everton an option but they turned it down" defence that doesn’t wash with me.

I would love to stay in Liverpool with a new stadium but we simply cannot afford it until someone comes in and offers us a similar deal to the dreaded Kirkby one

Wyness was spot-on to say ’in their council-controlled area’. He also stated quite correctly that ’the City of Liverpool’ is ’an arbitrary administrative boundary’. If it weren’t for all the naysayers I doubt very many people would have even considered Kirkby as being outside Liverpool. In my opinion Kirkby is in Liverpool. Always has been, always will be. To suggest otherwise is just pathetic as far as I’m concerned.
Wyness also mentioned the fact that the councils of Liverpool, Sefton and Knowsley are to merge together to create the Liverpool City Region in the next couple of years. Obviously this is because everyone knows that Liverpool does not start and end within a spurious political boundary. Administrative boundaries mean sweet FA to anyone other than politicians.
I would just ask anyone who adopts this ’KEIOC’ attitude to question the validity of saying Everton are leaving the City. Just think, Bootle is five minutes from the City centre but is not controlled by Liverpool council. Speke, however, is at least 30 minutes from the City centre and yet is considered to be ’in Liverpool’. That’s how deplorable and false this argument is.

Tony, what I am saying is because they have not shown us great favour in the past, KD aside, doesn’t mean we should just fuck them off without now seeing what, if anything, they have to offer. After all if they did come up with something then, except for maybe GFE, we would all be happy, new stadium, city location blah blah, don’t you think uniting the fans and possibly getting all we need is worth even contemplating?

That’s a good point that you make Sean. If we were given the choice between a site in Speke with very little financial assistance and the site in Kirkby with the proposed albeit somewhat vague financial package. Then I think it is a bit of a no brainer. So the in the or out the city argument is somewhat mute.
However, my main argument is that I feel we have not been given any such choice, and have been asked to take choose from the one and only "option" that has been put forward. It’s of little surprise that so many fans will not trust this board, I am sure they could have handled this whole affair much better.

I keep reading fans say that they have not been given any choice as to where we move. As far as I understand it there are only two choices the board can provide - Goodison or Kirkby. LCC suddenly offering us some sites is not really a choice if the money is not there to build the actual stadium on these proposed sites.
