Salt Lake 2 Everton 0

What an embarrassment. Brings into focus once more than what happens on the pitch is always a precursor to any success and an ability to fill out any stadium ? you can't run before you can walk. I would suggest we get matters right on the playing field and all funding for the next 3 years should be devoted squarely towards the team.

That gives us time to find a stadium site in the city which maintains our traditions, ensures our core fan base is maintained in the long term, and does not surrender our association with the City of Liverpool. Yes, some of these are emotional reasons but I would not be a supporter if wasn't for such.

Here's hoping for some quality acquisitions in the next 7 days. Alan Smith, yes please... and Freddie Ljungberg too if he is available.

Does anyone know why VDM was excused from the game against Salt Lake?

According to the OS he didnt go to America, full stop. Agree with Anthony, success comes on the pitch first.

Watched the highlights and they did look poor, but they were playing at altitude (Goodison is about 72 feet above sea level, Salt Lake 4000 feet above sea level). Don’t fret too much, Moyes wasn’t!

I think it brings into focus the quality of players we have though Steve. Relying on hard work and endeavour alone, which players like Beattie and Osman undoubtedly have (when they decide to exert it) is not enough to cut it at the highest level, nevermind against some joke Yank team.

I am sure I’m not alone in saying that we crave the sort of player who gets you on the edge of your seat, who can go past a man, create something out of nothing. Fernandes had it as he showed with that thunderbolt against Man U, Kanchelskis certainly had. We need to bring in those sort of players or we simply won’t ascend to the next level and if we don’t do that we ain’t gonna fill a spanking new 50,000 seater stadium or persuade those extra ’floating’ supporters to go and fill it

The altitude was the issue, as well as the fact that they’re well into their season and we haven’t even got into the full swing of pre-season yet. We also made numerous changes and, let’s face it, we played James Beattie for 90 minutes - which would see us consistently lose games regardless of who it was against!

More of a concern is the way absolutely every topic is jumped upon to argue for and against a stadium move. A 2-0 friendly loss is a ridiculous reason to jump on a bandwagon - put it into perspective.

Sorry Lee, your missing the point. This topic or result was jumped on because it shows that with a near starting eleven, irrespective of oxygen levels or altitude we have been caught severely wanting. Would we use this excuse if we had to play some Swiss side half way up a mountain in the UEFA cup? The stadium debate issue follows on from this and you will note that have I said that investment in a better team comes first, bigger stadium afterwards. With such a passive attitude to results like this it’s no wonder US journalists were sniggering in their press boxes. NSNO

In fact the only thing that surprises me about this sorry result is that the BBC football website haven’t got it plastered up as one of their headlines, as the reds who undoubtedly run it seem to delight in rubbing our noses in it and every available opportunity

Freddie L wont come to EFC, his super high wage demands put Fiorentina of. When looking at Evertons tight wage structure, I wouldn´t want the bald primadonna there out-earning Arteta and Cahill. A loan however...
