"But maybe we needed that, maybe it is a wake-up call to make us realise we are all about hard work and commitment and there wasn't enough of that tonight."
Doesn't that statement sum up the standard of football we play and ambition of our club. You would have thought a supposedly 'top' manager, having been in charge for 5 years, would have realised through personal experience that just having hard work and commitment in your armoury means embarassment in Europe, the likely possibility of early cup exits and, when a small squad gets fed up or too knackered to 'work hard'.. dismal league performances.
Is it too much to hope that Moyes and his coaching staff will ever train and set us up to play attractive football? At the end of the day the possibility of being entertained is all we can hope for, because thanks to our Board there's no point in dreaming of success as they dont have the finances, business acumen or drive to make it happen.

That is truely a sad indictment of everything Moyes stands for when it comes to Everton playing football... hard work and commitment. So much for tactics, skill, teamwork and ball control. Pfftuy!

I think ’hard work and commitment’ are needed to provide the platform for ’tactics, skill, teamwork and ball control’ and should always be a given for any decent team. I don’t have a problem with David Moyes’ comment if that’s how he sees it.

It’s a preseason game, what the hell does it count for? What should he come out and say, we’re a terrible team and are going to battle relegation based on the result of this one training game? Preseason is about gaining fitness and then working on the overall game as that improves.

"We lacked coherrence. Our skill levels were poor. We used to be all about hard work and committment but it’s now about making progress and I need to see more from these lads. We want to be winning any game we play, and that is about so much more than hard work and committment. It’s about tactics, skill, teamwork and ball control. Until we get these things right, no amount of hard work and committment is going to do us any good" ? THAT’S what I want to hear David Moyes saying!

Here here David, its just pre-season and it wont mean a thing on opening day against Wigan! Last night the conditions will have been really tough against a side used to them and mid way through their season and maybe on a few players minds was that they dont want to be another James Vaughan, the game last night was just lack-lusture!

I think while Moyes is in charge of E.F.C it will always be hard work and endevour rather than flair but fair play to him for bringing in Pienaar who is a flair player , just type in his name on YouTube to see what I mean..A midfield of Arteta , Cahill, Pienaar and possibly Vogel looks a tasty proposition to me , whether it works out like that we dont know but at least there is more energy and quality there than the Pembridge and Kilbane days..The midfield we have now is the best since Hutchison, Barmby and Collins inmy view..Heres hopin it works out

If pienaar can capture his early days,it will turn out to be a good signing. The only problem I have is,is he and Vogel just being brought in as squad players or are they going to be first choice.Suppose it’s a nice headache for Moyes to have for once.

I personally think that both Vogel and Pienaar will be first choice with Carsley being used a bit more sparingly and maybe even dropping back to a 4-5-1 while vaughan is out (thats if we dont get another striker) but it will give much better options.
