The Mail Bag
Biased website?

Just a quick thought: hands up all those who have posted something on here that hasn't appeared? Doesn't matter what the content, or whether or not you were agreeing or disagreeing with something, how often have you genuinely had a post refused?
I have been for the new stadium for certain reasons in a post. A day later I have waxed on about how I would love to stay at Goodison for other reasons. In some posts I have given the Board credit for things they've done, in others I've slagged them off in a big way for some of the crap they've pulled.
At times I've loved Moyes, other times I have wanted him sacked. My point is, I have had a lot of opinions that have agreed with each side of each debate that there has been on this website. As long as each post was literate ,made sense, and wasn't just me cursing like a docker, it got posted. IT GOT POSTED!!!!
And in all honesty I would imagine most people posting on here have been the same with most of their posts, both on content and in seeing it get onto the screen.
Yet, all I have seen in some days' posts over the last eleven months I've logged on, today included, is how this website is anti-club, anti-Board, anti-Moyes and just too negative to deserve any credit. It's fans posting the articles, it's us driving the website forward, it's us doing the whinging or applauding. Can you really see Michael, Lyndon and Colm sitting in a room making all this up?
It's a good website with intelligent fans making use of it, why not just leave it at that.

The failure of my material to appear happened at least three times. I wasn’t happy about this because ...
1. Not once did anyone take the trouble to explain why, and
2. There appears to be no barrier to certain other folk subjecting the readership to utter tripe.

As you may have noticed, we?ve lowered the bar drastically with regard to the comments and responses. We only have one rule really: don?t call your fellow Evertonians redshite/kopite twats, or the equivalent. Other than that, the Blue Pencil has been largly retired... [but don?t test me!]

On reflection,I am happy to agree that these were either of puerile content or repeated points I had made many times before.
Given that most my views are certainly not those of the Editors,I think I can attest that there is no censorship here.

The worst thing is, as I'm reading it and thinking it could be a viable alternative, what should pop up in the adverts section on the right hand side but an advert for a tour of Anfield! Absolutely disgraceful. You ought be ashamed to allow this advert to appear on TW.

There are two streams to the accusations of negativity leveled at ToffeeWeb: firstly, that the editorial staff is unwaveringly anti-everything Everton; and, secondly, that because of that we attract (or foster) an overtly negative readership.
It's understandable in a way and criticism comes with the territory of being a big site with editorial and outside contributors alike with strong opinions and a desire to stamp their feet with conviction if they feel that we're having the wool pulled over our eyes, if we feel that the Board is not fulfilling its responsibilities to what is one of the country's oldest and greatest sporting institutions, and if we feel that on the field the manager and players are not aspiring to the traditions of the club. One man's negativity is another man's objectivity and healthy criticism.
Few said we were negative and anti-Club when we jumped up and down about Peter Johnson plunging Everton into debt and looking to relocate us to Cronton Colliery. What would have happened if no-one had stood up to him, if no-one had said anything at the time? The issue this time is that Kenwright is a Blue and must therefore have Everton's best interests at heart. Even if you take that as gospel, who's to say he has the capacity to get the big decisions right?
I think the problem is that people think we criticise the club for the sake of it, that we're against everything and everybody at the club and that we do it either for our own amusement or just because we're bloody-minded. Believe me, the inordinate number of hours it takes to keep this place current and relevant would simply not be worth it if all we wanted to do was make mischief. We do it because because of an undying love for Everton Football Club.
And if all we were looking for was exposure, we'd be going about it in the wrong way. The 'Kipper lads enjoy a far closer relationship with both the club and the local media either because they aren't prepared to criticise or just don't feel the same way on the key issues as we do. Only today, an icLiverpool.co.uk report appeared to ignore the results of our Kirkby poll in favour of 'Kipper's even though ours, at 3,600+ respondents versus their 650, was a more representative survey.
The bottom line is we're passionate Blues, we call it as we see it but, above all, we provide this site as a forum for all Evertonians of all persuasion. Yes, we have our views, and yes we might take you to task if we don't agree with them but now, more than ever, you as a readership and community have the forum to reply and expound your own point of view.
As we have said time and time again, we post almost everything that gets submitted by our readers. As you say, Kieran, as long as it is literate, makes sense, and wasn't just someone cursing like a docker, it gets posted. [And you would not believe ? well, reading the Comments which are 99% unedited, you might! ? how much time goes into editing stuff that just doesn't make sense just so that it can get posted!]
By the way, if you can't find something you did submit, it may have been recatergorised (e.g. moved from a Fan Article to the MailBag, or vice versa) or could have been converted from a MailBag submission into a Comment and tagged to the relevant discussion. This is to prevent too much repetition in the MailBag forum.
Phew... OK, as you were...
