A thought for Moyes

Comments (10)

With all the talk being of Stadia & the merits (or otherwise) of moving to Kirkby, it is easy to forget that the season begins in less than two weeks. During this close season, all the talk has been around the stadium issue and the lack of transfer activity at Goodison Park. I would like to comment on David Moyes.

I think Evertonians should be proud to have such a hard-working manager at the helm. It is rare in the modern game that managers do not grumble when given such a limited transfer kitty. Moyes is working at a club where there is little or no money to spend on players while clubs around him are spending at will, yet he doesn't throw his toys out of the pram and just gets on with the job.

Yes, he passed comment on the "ridiculous spending" of other clubs, but looking at the transfers made this season, can anyone say that he wasn't right? We all know that Moyes is not the finished article as a manager and that he has made mistakes, but who could do a better job with the resources given? If we were to get rid of Moyes in favour of a new manager, my bet would be that the any manager coming to Everton would demand a sizable transfer kitty. Something which Everton Football Club can't/won't give them.

So it is with great excitment that I look forward to the new season, and as a passionate Evertonian I feel happy that our club is in the hands of a man who refuses to pay over the odds for players and a man who obviously cares greatly for our beloved club. Let's get behind our manager & our team and roar them into Europe again next season.

You mean just like we did in 2005? With David Moyes you have to be ready for anything ? the bad just as well as the good. His roller coaster ain't stopped yet, I fear... and could well be headed for another plunge. Look at the pattern: It's been up-down every second season. Last season it was up... Do the maths!

But thankfully, you nor I can predict the future and will therefore have to wait until next season to see if DM’s yo-yoing will continue.

While I appreciate your point Michael - Everton have indeed been inconsistent under DM - I think it would be daft for any of us to predict a tough season ahead purely on the basis of a year-by-year pattern lasting only 5 years!

I agree that we may well struggle this season. However I would be tempted to give the size of our squad facing up to the extra demands of competing in the UEFA Cup and the lack of quality aside from our starting eleven, as reasons underpinning this belief!

Did you not hear Wyness? He said there will be plenty of new faces by the time the season starts so we will be fine! :)

What a load of twaddle, hard working manager, hard working team!
We all know about hard work but what about the football?
When was the last time we played any kind of attractive football under Moyes ?
Can’t remember...me neither.
He’s been the luckiest manager this summer because the great Kirkby go or don’t go debate, has overshadowed the fact that Dithering Dave is back with a vengance!!
How long does it take this tactically inept fool to make his mind up over a player,Nugent and I’m not his biggest fan,did everything but run around Goodison naked to attract Moyes and eventually went for £4.5m with add ons ..still too expensive for DD !
what happened to the man who said he fully expected to break the clubs transfer record this summer.
Instead who do we get Phil Jagielka (with all due respect)yawn, and young Stevie Pienaar.
Not exactly why I renewed my season ticket.
You can’t put all the blame on tweedledum and tweedledee, people have to realise that Moyes isn’t capable of operating in the top hemisphere,he’s happier at the bottom.Where’s his scouting network in Europe,Scotland,China etc.
In my humble opinion it’s time for a Director of Football to do the transfers.
My hopes for the new season,a good cup run,5th or 6th again, new ground, new board and new manager!
Nil Satis Nisi Optimum is our motto but we ain’t gettin it at the minute!!
Nevertheless COYB!!!

Moyes is a class manager that has come in and raised all our expectencies for each season,we are not up there with the big boys yet but we are steadily building and maybe soon we can be the ones who spash out on new players and really have a go at Man u and Chelsea! The likes of Tottenham and Newcastle constantly throw millions at nothing whereas David Moyes has spent within his means and managed a 4th place finish, something which many big spenders have failed to do!

Moyes a class manager!! Come on Dan think about it.
Yes he took us to 4th,but under him we’ve also had our lowest points total and lowest goals scored.
This is a man who goes 1-0 up and defends for the rest of the game.
I was at the City of Manchester stadium when we got tonked 5-1 and I was also in Bucharest when we fell apart.
Under Moyes I’ve seen us ship 5 goals 5 times in 1 season, even in the dark days of Gordon Lee we were never that poor.
As I’ve stated at this level Moyes needs help from somebody with experience both in Europe and the transfer Market,Joe Royle ?
Otherwise I fear another yo-yo season.

Martin Handley, why the fuck DID you renew your season ticket? Sounds to me like you’d pefer to shoot the beaks off birds on a saturday than have anything to do with EFC.

Get your facts right D and have the balls to put your name not a letter to your comment.
I love Everton I just think that Moyes isn’t up to the job.
I never thought he was upto it 5 years ago and I still don’t,he needs help but won’t admit to it.
Why have I renewed my season ticket I’ll tell you why because over the years in the armed forces Everton are one the few things that kept me going and for all the heartache they’ve given those few glorious momments when I was able to stick two fingers up to all those redshite and ford bandwagonners (man u fans etc) make it worthwhile.
So sunshine DON’T EVER question my credentials as an Evertonian again.
I’m just not a Moyesette.

Respect to Moyes he has twice in the last three seasons got us in to Europe with hard working players now this could be due to the cash hes given to spend, but hand on heart if you were not a blue fan would you pay to watch some of the dross over the last few seasons Manny linking with Mikki had me drooling thinking we were on the way to the next phase but it looks unlikely now I dont mind letting the players we have go leave but i want quality replacements with the cash that has disappeared with no reasons given I agree Moyes is not to blame but he is in the position to demand answers and he has not in, public anyway
