Does it matter where we play?

Comments (17)

To those panicking over the location of a future ground not being in Liverpool, just remember Man Utd play in Salford, not Manchester. It doesn't bother them does it?

I'm more concerned about a repeat of 2 years ago with the lack of squad size and more jokes about in and out of Europe in 90 mins. Who is going to score the goals? It won't be AJ!

But we're not Manchester United. We have an enormous block of "walk-up" fans, not a vast prawn-sandwich brigade swarming up the M6 from "dahn saaf" to watch the most famous football club in the world. United can afford to alienate its supporters because there are plenty more match-going fans waiting in the wings. Everton relies on its core support and while very few will make a conscious decision not to watch the team in Kirkby, nobody knows how few will simply reduce their attendance over time because of what seem, on the face of it, relatively small time, distance and financial inconveniences.

Has anyone thought maybe Kenwright decided to start this new stadium debate now so that it would give the fans something to argue over and deflect away from the fact that Everton are practically the only club in the Premiership not spending big money on summer transfers?

I hate watching Portsmouth, Sunderland, Man City and West Ham sign players clearly out of Everton’s price range.

It seems as though every other club in the Premiership has major money to spend, so why haven’t we?

I haven’t worried as the weeks have gone by and all the players have signed for other teams. I have much faith in our manager. But now I’m starting to get concerned that the reason Moyes hasn’t signed any big players yet is because he doesn’t have a pot to piss in.

The stadium debate can wait, where’s the fucking transfer money gone Bill???

Yeah you are right Mr Schaffer; What a sham and why so little question about transfer money? My da supports the Bulls, and even more players have come to Pride Park than to Godison. Even Paul Earnshaw cost £3.5 million. If the Bulls have more money to spend then us something is rightly fucked up. The boys are hardly robbing it are they? I reckon someone should have a gawk at the accounts?

Just to be precise, the Mancs play in Trafford and not Salford.

Lets be fair. Sunderland, West Ham, Pompey etc...they have spent so much money this year on crap!

We managed a very good sixth last season on what we have already. One more game a week in the UEFA cup doesn’t mean we have to start spending silly money on gash players. I play twice a week in an amateur league and i don’t suffer and I’m 29 years old so why would the Everton squad?? By the looks of it pre season this year has all been about fitness. Look at the pictures of the players. They all look very fit and when it comes to playing that extra game mid week, the fittest teams will always do better.

Who gives a shit if we haven’t bought anyone this year that costs over £5 million. We have the nucleus of a great side already. Howard, Lescott, Arteta, Cahill and Johnson. I was confident last year and will be just as confident this year. Stop bitching and start looking forward to another top 6 and a nice UEFA Cup run.

PL PL, who the hell are the "bulls" , arn’t they a basketball team?

You made a stupid comment about Shandy Andy last week saying he scored 53 goals in 73 played for Inter. Maybe you should think before you post.

Joe Man United were not formed as Man utd they where Newton Heath L&YR F.C. they moved to old trafford in 1910.
Jo I think your argument has gone straight out the window.

Shaun in case you forget, Everton where not formed as Everton. What a stupid argument. Joe is dead right with what he says about United. As for walk up fans, yes Man U have a lot of walk up fans. As for the southern support most people down here seem to support Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs. The only Man U fans I know are people that have moved down from Manchester. Do you know why United can draw fans in even though they are out of town, and could even when they were crap in the eighties. Because Old Trafford is easily accessible and there is loads of free parking on Salford Quays, only a minutes walk away from the ground. Maybe as Everton fans we should be more worried about the accesability of any new ground rather than location for locations sake. Make it easier for out of towners to watch the club and matbe some of them will.

United may play outside of the city boundaries but you can still walk into Manchester city centre in 15 minutes from the ground. Kirkby is miles away from the city centre with very few transport links into Liverpool.

The South is full of Utd fans - you could walk around any high street in Kent or Surrey and you will see both and adults and kids wearing Utd shirts, the only other team shirt that gets near it in terms of numbers is Chelsea.

Manchester United have never played in Manchester (except when they shared maine road post war)so what’s your point?
It should be remembered that their stadium is also quite close to Manchester city centre..... (I know having walked it several times) Kirkby is not close to Liverpool city centre at all. It is very poorly fed by public transport and being peripheral has only a handfull of traffic lanes from the main conurbation which the vast majority of 40-50,000 people will be expected to use predominently in the same direction. Anyone who has been to kirkby in rush hr will know this will be a nightmare (I did it for 6 years). The comparison is therefore weak and fundamentally flawed to the point of irrelevance.

The difference is Salford actually borders the city center of Manchester and is nearer to all the ameneties than Eastlands.
you can spit on Old Trafford from Deansgate which is the heart of Manchester.Kirkby is in the middle of nowhere so stop the silly comparisions.

Steve Pugh, what i am getting at is the fact that it doesn’t matter where the club was formed originally. It matter where it is now. Where it grown, where it had it’s ups and downs.

So Steve want to look at the whole picture again andhave a rethink.

If your bird was to move house a few miles down the road, would you stop calling in to shag her?

On the subject of southern supporters. I listened to talksport driving home from work yesterday. All the talk was of Heinz going from Old Trafford to Liverpool- every single caller (who was a fan of either club) had a southern accent. in the 40 minute drive there was not one single caller with a northern accent. All glory hunting wankers!
