Car Park Confusion

Comments (10)

OK, I'll admit it, I don't live in Liverpool, I don't meander down County Road for a few bevvies before the match with my mates, I don't pop over to Goodison and then watch the game/go to pub/dissect match over a few more pints. I drive about 80-100 miles all in on match days to watch my beloved Blues. So, I ask, being naive, WHY have Everton not told me where I can park my car on match days next season?

I used to have a pass for the area behind the Park End but when EFC decided that the best way to offer hospitality was to build a bigger B&Q tent, I was moved up to Stanley Park. No problem, I thought.

Ahah, but that is where LFC are building their own new ground. So I foolishly asked BK, "Please Sir, Where can I park my car now?"

The answer was vague to be honest:

  1. You can still go to Stanley Park but only on a match-to-match basis.
  2. You can wait to see what sites EFC have been looking at, eg near to Stanley Park, or to quote "the other side of the park" or "it's quite near to Goodison".

So to reiterate my point, I DO drive to Goodison and I'd rather give my hard earned to the club than to some young-uns 'minding my car' (I also have no problem with this) WHY THE HELL HAVEN'T EFC FOUND ANOTHER SITE(S)?

They knew Liverpool would get the car park eventually, but again screw the fans who pay, they'll still come whatever, Am I being paranoid or is that typical?

PS My dad (who I take) is not 'young' so I've gotta take it all into consideration. I know I'll be classed as another YES vote to Kirkby as it'll be easier for me to get there by the certain posters on here but I'm not arsed where we play. I just want to be given a fair deal.

PPS I got moved because of hospitality, the Park End car park is dead now. Need I say more? I'll keep you posted of any developements...

Keep the Faith everyone, In Moyes we trust!

Hey Matt,I know what you mean, its a pain in the arse if you drive to Goodison (which I do for every game from Blackpool) but the kids do my head in so I park at some school about 15 minutes walk away from the ground! Im a yes vote for Kirkby and I do hope we actually have a proper car park outside the stadium even tho it will probably be a total nightmare to get out of after the game!

listen mate , I wouldn,t dream of parking my car in the stanley park car park again as I was stupid enough to do this a few weeks back on a non-match day to go visiting somebody forgetting how close it is to the redshites "home" I came back an hour later to find my bonnet scratched to fuck, reason I think was my efc tax disc holder and air freshener. I live just 2 miles from goodison but these twats now think the park is theirs.

£5/£6 to park in a school car park about 7 mins walk up the road. Not scallies, but proper ’managed’ car parks. Been doing this for 3/4 years - no problem, you even get to see the end of the game, clap the lads off and stil not get caught in traffic.

Matt there lies the problem you don’t trust them with your parking fee while Iam sorry to say appear to trust the same people with the future of the club me? I vote NO to the move and if I were you I would find another parking space

Matt, I’d turn this round and ask why Liverpool FC have been granted permission to build on the existing car park without nominating a suitable alternative. Planning permission, my arse!

Why not build a multi-storey on the back of an enlarged Park end. Charge the kopites through the nose to subsidise the cost for blues, cos there’ll soon be loads of them trying to find a parking space. BTW I believe the parking provision at Kirkby will be something like 10,000 spaces short for a 50,000 stadium with poor public transport links, work that one out.

Tom,dont you think that the public transport links will get better with more services from all over the place once there is a huge retail park and a football stadium there? There is probably no buses or anything that go there at the moment because there are no people that go there!

Forgot to mention also regarding the 10,000 shortfall on car park spaces,I think we can safely assume that 50,000 fans does not mean 50,000 cars otherwise there would be no need for public transport anyway!

I worked on the merseytram proposals, and in Kirkby itself for 6 years (upto last year). So I have some experience of the local transport network. How do you suggest that any peripheral estate (Speke, Kirkby, Huyton, Halewood) can ever get that level of public transport, and from all over the metropolitan area? It really is not possible to shift a city’s public transport focal point from centre to edge. There is next to no spare capacity in our deregulated bus srvice, and the trains can never really be more frequent than say 5 an hour to mesh with the rest of the Northern line. The difference in train provision between Kirkby and Sandhills (soccerbus) is 10:1 and bus services similar. This really isn’t a close thing. Where are all these new buses and drivers going to come from for a fortnightly event venue? The fact is this is a retail development that will be predominently dependent on car use like the Mersey retail park in Speke...... please note NO extra services have been generated for this substantial retail site.... and it is invariably gridlocked.
As far as I know there are only 2,000 spaces at Kirkby (correct me if I’m wrong). Even at 4 people a car (very optomistic I think you would agree) you’ll still need approx 12,000 car spaces because there is only about 2-3000 public transport seats per hr. I can’t see how it stacks up at all!
