Thrown for a Loop
Comments (5)
Am I missing something? The available land at the Loop next to Bestway appears to me to be slightly smaller than the current footprint of Goodison Park. As much as I would love this concept to work, how does a stadium fit in there? I make the Loop too small by about 2,000 sq. metres. Does anyone have the measurements?

Peter, the Loop would accommodate the current Goodison Park footprint, albeit snugly. For what it's worth The Emirates also fits exactly into that space but with no room to spare around the outside. (Obviously we would need to take advantage of the surrounding area or areas beneath the stands for the additional facilities like bars, parking, etc.)
Someone came up with the measurements on one of the forums and because it's circular, the square footage was greater than the Goodison site.

So if it is only just big enough for a stadium how are we going to interest any third party commercial interests in helping to finance it. Sounds like a complete non starter to me.

Well, the area immediately south (across the Kingsway) has apparently been earmarked for regeneration and could, conceivably, be opened up to restaurants, bars, a cinema, etc, and presumably a Bestway store (they must want to be part of the project in the same Tesco are in Kirkby because they’ve already started discussions regarding a design/feasibility study).
Add pedestrian bridges, build a wide concourse over the Kingsway and you have a workable solution in the district of Everton within a brief walk of Lime St and the city centre.

Still can’t believe it was even mooted as a site by cllr Bradley - far too small and landlocked and we’re trying to move from a site which is at least as big (or small) as it.

Landlocked? It’s in the heart of the city. A few pedestrian bridges and bingo! Everyone can get to town on a single bus/train/ferry as opposed to two buses and/or the bombay express into end-of-the-line Kirkby. Check out the stadium guide website..... please note the number of new stadia being built in the US in similar downtown locations..... some with no parking at all. Why? because the fans can all get there from all parts of the catchment and therefore there’s hardly any need to use the car..... and this in the home of auto-culture. Put it this way, put your pretty pics of a stadium on this site to a vote and the kirkby non-option would be blown away.

Lyndon, the area originally shown in the Daily Post did include both the loop and the land south of it. This site seems the best possible site we could have after the Kings Dock. I think it will be extremely irresponsible if Everton do not take a good, hard look at developing this site. It really has everything, its within walking distance of the city centre and its actually in Everton. Its really not good enought just to dismiss it without considering all the options and that includes outside investment and a share issue to raise the funds needed. This is the single most important decision that Everton will make in our lifetime and this rush to kirkby is a huge mistake.
