ToffeeWeb - Season 2007-08

The Mail Bag

It's horrible

It's two weeks on Saturday to the start of the new season. With this in mind, I scrolled down through the mailbag from this period last year. Most of the debate was about the start of the season just gone. How would the new players fit in, what should be our starting eleven, what would happen to Moyes. Alot of the usual type of stuff you might say, so what?

The thing is, you could feel the excitement of a new season starting to build if you casually read more than just a couple of the posts. That "I'm a child and Christmas is nearly here" feeling was really there to be seen. The problem is that there is absolutely no sign of it on the website right now.

I know the stadium move is a very serious issue and it is rightly dominating a lot of our thinking and most of our posts on here. But it also has at times a very negative feel and seems to be taking alot of the joy out of being a football fan. Right now we should be enjoying the run up to a new season. Instead we're worrying ourselves sick over what is turning out to be a horrible and very divisive issue.

ToffeeWeb's next marketing coup will be special Everton-emblazoned hankies to take full advantage of this niche misery market!

I gree wholeheartidly with this post. We have to start concentrating on the positive rather than the negative. If we manage to seal the Baines deal look at our defense. Jag, Yobo, Lescott and Baines. All relativly young and 3 of them potential internationals. Possibly a back 4 for the next ten years. Remember arsenal ??
I think the Vogel deal will go through in only a matter of time which will provide us with some good cover across the midfield. I also think that Moyes will have another signing up his sleeve. Smith the most likely candidate. I think that everyone will agree that he will have no problem fitting into the Everton mold. The man gives a 100% and this side is built upon team spirit. He epitomizes what moyes has been building at the club.

Whatever issues we have with Billy etc, and I have more than a few myself, we would all agree that our manager is not idiot. So lets get behind him and the team. Just because those around us are signing players left right and centre doesn’t necessarily mean that they will perform. Its a simple fact that there is a settling in period to the English premiership which only the real quality can handle. The rest will be found out sooner or later. Bringing the like of 6 new players into your first is just suicide as we as football fans should know.

I for one am more excited about this season than i can ever remember so lets get behind our team.

We’re in europe, we’re moving forward !!

I think the last time the mood was so bad was prior to Rooney’s deaparture but its funny how that had the effect of galvinising everyone for the season ahead which proved very successful.

You can guarrantee that come the first game of the season we will all be stood shoulder to shoulder united in the common cause that is EFC. There is nothing like an opening day of the season game at home for getting the adrenaline flowing and focussing the mind on altruistic thoughts of brotherhood and unity. Providing we win of course. See you in August.

Vogel and Baines would be great signings that would improve both the squad and the 1st 11,bit undecided about Smith both as a player and weather we really need him but I must admit I have only watched him a little here and there! Id like to see a surprise signing, someone who hasnt even been mentioned! Cant wait for the new season,no football on a saturday is just wrong!
