Flogging Beattie to Blades?

Comments (24)

With the transfer market being the way it is at the moment, I doubt very much that selling Beattie for £4M is good business. We?d struggle to find a decent replacement back-up striker at that price. Plus I?m sure whoever we did bring in would now command the same level of wages in the current market.

Of course, if his 200607 form were to continue, he wouldn?t be much use anyway ? but there?s no doubt that even if he?s fit, Johnson wont be able to start every game with all the extra Uefa Cup commitments (touch wood) so we?ll need adequate reserves, hopefully JB can rediscover that half-forgotten scoring touch against some European also-rans.

I do agree with this..I wouldnt be prepared to sell Beattie at least until we have a striker in..Maybe Moyes is going to rush through the Alan Smith deal so that he can let Beatts move I dont know but we cant lose him just yet.

Hang on guys - don’t we have Anichebe, Lukas, Mc Fadden, and after Christmas Vaughn will be back. Surely 5 strikers are enough?

Are you joking? I suggest you come over here and watch Beattie. You won’t be impressed when you see him breathing through his arse after 20 minutes. Look at his stats - no goals in open play for a whole season, the last time he scored in open play was March 11 2006!!Beattie is not a decent back up striker. Honestly, he is useless and £4 million would be an unbelievable price to recoup on him. I have never been more dissapointed in a signing as I have Beattie. If we sold him now we still have a chance to bring in someone else.

If someone is stupid enough to offer 4mill for him we should bite their hands off.
This transfer window is a bit crazy with inflated transfers ( I would argue only Jags has represented value for money in this window). However it is relative and a sound strategy for this summer would be loans as come next summer when other clubs’ tv money is gone, hopefully we’ll still have ours. Wishful thinking?

£4 million for Beattie is silly money and if its true we should bite there hands off.Portsmouth only ended up paying £4.5 for Nuggent and he is a far better player than JB.Imagine if we had a manager with a bit of savy.
Nuggent in £4.5 million Beattie out £4.million.Happy days.No we have to keep hold of crabs like Biffa and let young up and coming
England internationals walk away.
Genius that Moyes guy.

Selling Beattie for £4m would be good business, I agree, but I don’t agree with those who think that our current strikeforce is adequate. If he went, I’d be looking for two replacements.

I still think that scoring could be a problem for us next season with the current personnel.

Four million for a player that on all shown form has no particular strengths as a striker is an absolute steal, and the money will go along way to find a better replacement, although easier said than done.It is crucial that we have a strong physical presence up front, a hold the ball type who can help take the pressure off AJ, the forward line is sadly lacking in this department, and you cannot expect Annichebe to carry this threat on his own at this moment. Alan Smith would be ideal,Everton fans will love this guy because he is just an 100% trier. Alas Smith and Johnson ??Over to you Moysie

My mate’s a cab driver and he knows where the fat bastard lives.
He said he’ll take him to Emmerdale country just to make sure he’s gone.
If the fact that Bryan Robson is willing to pay £4m for the lump isn’t a warning against too much alcohol then nothing is !
In all seriousness at least it’ll give us more cash for Baines,Smith,Vogel & Brataan then just do it!
Also can anybody tell me who this French/Morroccan lad is we’ve got on trial ?

The problem with Beattie staying is that if he has another shite season, which he will, then we won’t be able to give him away next summer let alone get £4m for him. He has to go now. Moyes has been fairly good at deciding signings weren’t wokring out and getting rid of them and managing to recoup a good amount of cash (Kroldrup, Davies). What we don’t want is a Richard Wright situation where he leaves at the end of his contract and we get nothing having invested £6.5m and 30k a week.
I think Beattie will actually do quite well at his next club but its never gonna happen with us so get rid of him and move for Smith asap.

It wouldn’t be Toffeeweb without Tony Marsh twisting a post to use it to have a go at David Moyes.

Incidentally, David Nugent went to Portsmouth for an initial £4.5m, rising to £5.7m.

Oh, and by the way, just because the Daily Mail reports that Sheff Utd are after Beattie for £4m doesn’t necessarily mean it’s true - after all, this paper reported on 3rd July that we were about to spend £17m on Jagielka, Smith, Richardson and Koumas (well, 1 out of 4 ain’t bad!)

But that would spoil the point of your post, which implies that a pretty much straight swap for Beattie and Nugent would have been done.

Best thing on sky sports yesterday. They did a little piece on us over in L.A.The camera goes on Beattie, and he’s got a bar of chocolate in his hand, you actually hear him say"Okay, you caught me with a bar of chocolate"Once a fatty, always a fatty. No offence to any fans carrying a bit of weight!

Brian Warings comment is awesome, once a fatty always a fatty, just can’t beat that, Beattie should go into modelling wonderbra’s, he needs one

Everyone is entitled to an opinion but the likes of Chris Masey should hang his head in shame for such childish ridicule. Beattie had a stinker last season and if you read the article in the Echo last night he admitted it, I personally feel he needs to move on for his sake and ours, £4m would be great business in my book. As it stands though he remains an Everton player, whilst we are paying his over-inflated wages please refrain from the childish name calling and act like an adult, sounds Chris like you need a shawl not a wonderbra you arl woman.

Come on Peter, he does have fine pair on him. I think he needs more of a supportive bra rather than a show off push up though.

would love to see smith ( should have been nuge ) baines, vogel and braaten in the blues 0708 team but it aint gonna happen, thats gotta be at least 15m out going and we dont have the money, 4 mill for beats is good money yet it would just pay for jags coming to us. would love to be proved wrong, only time will tell, 2 weeks to be precise..

looks like jags, stevie p and jukiewiciovicziczowzic is going to be our lot

i have been hoping someone would be daft enough to take beattie, get the cash and get braaten in , he can score ,cos we struggled to score enough last season, and this season could be tougher, with all the others improving their squads, it is goals that win matches afterall!!

Peter, you need to chill out.Has it got that way now, where we can’t have a bit of fun?(and no,I’m not saying it is right to have fun at the expense of overweight people)Butdo you think Beattie is arsed when he is picking up his 40 grand a week?Your are right about his wages though.Inflated wages for an inflated player.

I say we keep Beattie, you’ve got to keep one clown kicking around the dressing room for morale.

tony marsh, beattie used to be an up and coming england star too. Nugent has every possibility to fail in the premier league this year too.
4 mill for beattie would be decent though.

I think the misnomer "Engerland player" is a joke, look at the superstars they have had in the past, giants like Carlton Pamler, Neil Ruddock, John Barnes means nothing and the fact they have won one major trophy in a hundred years says it all, anyone daft enough to offer money for lardy should be met with open arms.

We have to take 4M for a player who has been nothing short of a disaster from day 1. If we only lose 2M on him we have landed on our feet, especially considering he is 29 now. I appreciate the point of needing plenty of back-up players, but I have zero confidence that even if we are absolutely desperate he could come on and do anything worthwhile. Therefore, there is no point in keeping him at all. Alan Smith would be a terrific replacement as has twice the quality. We have then got back-up in the great young lads and McFadden.

I would just like Beattie to go on a free...I hate the Twat!

He is a insult to Everton by the fact he is still content to take far more money in a week than I earn in a year.

Anyone who has any doubt that Beattie is rubbish at this level should check out his miss against Real Salt Lake. I could have put that one away with my nudger. This is a good move all round. Beattie might do better in the Championship and we don’t just get the 4 mil, we save his wages for another signing. It’s still 2 mill and a liot of fat pay days wasted on one useless get.
