Beware the naked man...

Like most fans, I have followed the stadium debate more avidly than any General Election I can remember and with good reason. The stakes are higher. I?ve come to the conclusion that what separates the pro- and anti-Kirkby groups is that one side sees the destruction of Goodison Park and the departure from Liverpool as an ending; the other side sees it as a new beginning. When you think about it, how can Goodison Park mean the same to supporters who have witnessed only the frustrations of the last 10 ? 20 years there as it does to fans who also recall the prior glory?

There are all kinds of good arguments to marshal for and against the Kirkby move and most have been eloquently expressed by fans on this site, but there?s another one that?s difficult to put into words. I have a sense that it is a bad move that I can?t put my finger on, a feeling in my bones that this is wrong. There?s an expression, ?beware the naked man who offers you his shirt.? For me, that means that if something looks off, it usually is, and if something is right, it doesn?t have to be supported by lies and deceit.

You can best persuade people of a just position with the truth. Why, then, are we being fed so much crap about this project? Leaving aside all the unanswered questions about the stadium, the other day, Keith Wyness described Knowsley as ?one of the fastest-growing areas IN LIVERPOOL,? then claimed in the same breath that the Kirkby area would soon be ?swallowed up? by the ?Liverpool City Region.? The Liverpool City Region is a concept that incorporates everything from Southport to Flint. It is a nonsensical argument. Heswall, Ainsdale, Wigan, all part of the LCR, are demonstrably not Liverpool.

Why is he trying to persuade us with bullcrap? And why is Bill Kenwright silent? Why is he not out front and center supporting this move if he believes in it? Something is wrong here. Very wrong.

Could it be that Bill has the same reservations as some of the supporters. Especially as the news has broken that Robert Earl has taken a seat on the Board. Could Earl now be playing the same cards as Paul Gregg wanted to play a couple of years ago?
Maybe Bill has been silent because his club won’t be his for very much longer? All conjecture I know, but just a thought.

Why do people insist on posting complete spurious pieces of information and presenting them as facts?! The proposed Liverpool City Region will comprise of ’Liverpool’, Knowsley and Sefton. Neither Heswall nor Wigan are within these boundaries so will not in any way be part of the Liverpool City Region.

Well said Peter I to smell a rat but trying to convince some of the fans on here is near impossible. The whole dodgey saga just doesnt sit right to me and the outlined plans and finances change on a daily basis WHY.

Take LFCS proposed ground building scheme and compare it to ours and its a joke. They are even building a replica Kop for good measure.

The way Kenwright has gone AWOL
cant I?

The way Kenwright has gone AWOL says it all for me.The mans running scared.i reckon Kirkby may well go tits up like the Kings Dock fiasco did and we wont get a new ground untill we get new owners.

Tony, a man who always smells a rat is a bit like the boy who always cried wolf.

Tony may be a cynical so and so, but it doesn’t mean he’s wrong on everything. In fact, he’s often right, but gets carried away during his rants on here and goes off on a dodgy tangent. Sad to say, but I think he’s right about BK. Seriously, why have we not heard from him? It’s just impossible to fathom unless something’s up. I think it’s Kirkby or bust for him and he knows it. I admire his passion for the Club and his apparent desire to protect us from foreign chancers, but there must be a better option than Kirkby. He has to be prepared to open up to investment - the investment that can see us build a proper stadium in the right place and compete in the transfer market better than we seem to be this Summer.

Sean Rothwell, you could not be more hopelessly wrong. Read the 2005 report on the LCR. It uis an economic entitiy which comprises an enormous area around Merseyside beyond Liverpool Knowsley and Sefton. Look it up. I spent an hour reading the entire thing and unsurprisingly, it is very clear about one thing. The economic driver of the region is the Liverpool core which we are preparing to move AWAY from.
