An Awkward Time for B Kenwright
Comments (12)
Everybody knows it, the fans, the manager and all the players ? a few dodgy tackles that bring about injuries, a bout of illness, and next season Everton will not be able to put out a team. The potential is there for Everton to be in the news for all the wrong reasons again next season ? unable to fulfil a fixture. If this becomes the case, how the hell is Mr Kenwright going to show his face around Goodison?
Cometh the hour when the manager, the players and the fans expect him to deliver, he goes awol. Moyes, the players, and the 35,000 diehard fans did their bit last season and took us to sixth. June and July is the time for Bill to do his part and financially support the efforts of everyone else by strengthening the team. What's the problem Bill?
Alan Smith and Leighton Baines, by all written accounts, could be bought within 24 hours. They want to come and both are available for around £6M. I presume that's not even £6M up front but probably spread over 3 or 4 years like the majority of transfer agreements? Moyes wants them as he has tracked them for years so Bill please can you tell us why Everton have not signed them?
If it is because you cannot afford them, hold your hand up and be honest and be a man about it. I'm sure the majority of Evertonians would have a lot more respect for you for this stance than disappearing until the transfer window is over and then get Moyes to tell us the hard luck stories about the clubs not wanting to sell.

Another reason why I should have gone on me hols... I understand the overall concern, but come on: "...not be able to put out a team... unable to fulfil a fixture." Are you mad? This is ridiculous scare-mongering.
Do you have any idea how many professional football players there are on Everton's books? Everton may have to field a weakened team due to injuries, illness, food poisoning, but (barring exceptional circumstances), I think it extremely unlikely that they would be unable to field 11 players, with 5 names on the bench. Yes, a few more signings would be nice, but we are always linked with loads and loads more players than we sign. Welcome to the Rumour Mill.

If this is an open letter to Mr Kenwright then I suggest you forward it to him via the Everton website or Hell if you are desperate drop him a line at www.kenwright.com
It’s the only way to get an answer if you really want one, go on be direct ask the question of the man himself.

Scaremongering it may be but I d losely agree. I mean why havent we signed Manny who could be a world beater. BECAUSE WE HAVE NO MONEY. The question why is what puzzles me with all the tv revenue flying about. I say buy Manny and a top quality forward and sell BT to part fund it and we ll have the makings of a really good side that could beat anyone on their day. I m sorry but our new SA midfielder doesnt make up for the Manny loss !

I think the likelihood of EFC not being able to field a team slim at best - nevertheless, who wants Smith anyway - Everton already has one £6m waste of space, why do they need another?

Why haven’t we signed Manny?
Two reasons
1. look at the state West Ham are in regarding 3rd party ownership.
2. He’s worth 12million pounds FFS.

Mike Whittaker, you are out of your mind. Are you really so anxious and worried about things that you feel the need to write such and extreme post?
Stop it, NOW!
We have a small team, we have very few signings and things could go pear shaped - but definitely not this way!!!
It’s more likely for Everton to get dumped out Europe at the first stage again than for us to be unable to field a team - and even then I reckon we’ll go on a little cup run this time.
Hey, I’m just as concerned by the lack of signings as the next fan but I’m not panicking - yet.

Steve the question is then why didn t we a deal in place when we took him on loan ? Short sightedness in my opinion

I can only assume the third party malarkey was a stumbling block. All this third party ownership should be stopped in my opinion, the only person who can own a players registration should be the club he plays for. If Manny wasn’t under third party ownership he’d be half of what he’s valued at now.

Totally agree with you steve.Surely there is some way the governing bodies can come up with a rule regarding the third party ownership?Something that stops it going on.Or is there already a rule in place?but can be manipulated,so as to be got round.

I may have exaggerated the point of fulfilling a fixture but packing the team with a bunch of first year pros and reserves would still cause the same level of embarrasment to the club. We have played two friendlies so far and already lost one major player for 4 months, the result by all accounts of an innocuous challenge. The players, such as Arteta, Stubbs, Cahill and Neville are making ’polite’ pointers to Bill to sort it out via the press. Whether you rate Smith or not, it’s quite clear that Moyes would love to have him in the squad. The Smith situation is a clear indication that Kenwright is not able to back his manager in the transfer market and therfore cheating the club, as he categorically stated during last season there would be sufficient funds to spend. £3 million in the 2007 transfer market is not sufficient funds.

I think we should all write to www.kenwright.com and ask him to come out of his closet and support the manager. At least 2 quality signings could make the difference between progress or the return of the dark days.

Boro are going to make a formal approach for Al within days so its now or never folks...I personally would like to see Al at Everton, even though I’m a Yorkie I’d rather see him in Merseyside than at the Lancastrian end of the country (yuck yuck!) Man U want rid so I should think you may be able to negotiate Al for around £5m - considering waste of space Richardson went for £5.5 I think thats ridiculously cheap - its not just the footballing side with Alan he’s a strong personality and a decent fella he’d give the whole team a lift, believe me. Not everyones cup of tea, I understand that, but I think you could do a lot worse (like keep Beattie ha ha)
