One of the Fastest Growing Areas

Comments (8)

Keith Wyness is on record as saying that Knowsley is "one of the fastest-growing areas in Liverpool." I thought that I would check out this claim as it didn't ring true to me as I have family and friends who live in Knowsley and have told me the opposite.

What I found was that between 1981 and 2005 the population of Knowsley fell by 13.9% a total of 24,200 people (Figures from Registrar General?s Mid-Year Population Estimates 1981-2005, NOMIS). The report goes onto say that "The main reduction in the resident population occurred up until 1988 and thereafter has fallen gradually."

If Mr Wyness is wrong about something as clear cut as this can anything he currently says be taken as correct?

The area’s getting invested in, and not just by us, with Liverpool being CoC next year. The population will be going up. Any idea about the figures post-2005? Wasn’t the CoC announced around that time?

This is typical of the root problems at Everton its either bad planning inept staff used or blatant lies

Wyness is wrong. This can be proved by the FACT that Knowsley originally planned to build 3 new schools in Kirkby. They have now reduced this to 2 on the grounds that the population is falling.

Personally not usually one to stand up for KW. But I have seen no where he says that Knowsley is one of the fastest growing areas.

I have seen him say the Manchester Liverpool Corridor is. As for the legitamacy of that claim I leave it for others.

Regardless, the area has a much larger catchment area for potential supporters than Walton.

Nick, the calculus used for the catchment area time formulae is flawed it is used for retail sales, for the likes of supermarkets, car dealerships etc, a football supporter is loyal to their chosen brand, the travelling element comes from an ability to make the journey to their chosen club (is their a feasible transport route) and if they can afford to or have the means to make that journey, stop believing all the propoganda.

Not only did he say Knowsley is the fastest growing area, he said it was the fastese growing IN LIVERPOOL, which is obviously impossible as it is not in Liverpool. It also has about a third of Liverpool’s population. I don’t know who he thinks he’s deceiving. Himself, maybe. But even if Kirkby were in Liverpool, I’m not sure that’s the best place for a new stadium.

Keith Wyness in an interview with Larry Neild of the Daily Post (21st July 2007), said "Knowsley is one of the fastest growing areas of Liverpool."

That statement is false. Knowsley as a borough has seen a long term steady decline in population. I repeat if factual information is incorrect then this calls into question Mr Wyness credibility.
