Why all the hand-wringing over our 'lack of transfer activity'?
It has been abundantly clear over the past few years that we are short of money, so why the surprise? Did you really believe that we were one of the top 20 richest clubs in Europe? Are you completely unaware of the concepts of spin and creative accountancy?
So it is clear to some of us that we do not have pots of money to spend on the expensive mediocrity on offer this summer. None of the players we have 'missed out' on have lost me any sleep. Getting £4M for Beattie would be a fabulous piece of business. As for Carsley, I'd rather he stayed another year or two, but if we part-ex him for a decent, younger player, I'd be happy. If, of course we actually replace these players...
I'm not a big fan of Moyes. To me he has proven himself to be at best, a good manager of ordinary players. In his defence, I think he has been let down by Kenwright and that we may never know how good he actually is. He has realised that if you are 'well-organised' you can get a top six finish. Many Evertonians seem to think that exciting football, cup runs and winning trophies are irrelevant, so what's the point in spending lots of money, especially if we don't have any? I think our transfer policy reflects our off-pitch management's style and the state of football today.
Of course, I'd prefer us to have forward-thinking, purposeful management with genuine ambition and business nous, but for the forseeable future, that's not going to happen.
In two weeks time, the season will have started. Last season, our squad went from 'the best in recent years', to one which was 'short on numbers'. In terms of senior professionals ready to play, the current squad is even shorter on numbers. The stadium debate has taken the focus away from this. The next two weeks will seriously judge the genuine ambition of our current management.

On a very basic level Profit=Turnover-Expenditure
I’d say turnover is 50% of what makes profit!

My friend is a DJ and was DJ’ing at Jermaine Pennants party on Sunday night and Alan Smith was there.
My friend asked him was he was down these ways and he told him that after 3pm today, he will be an Everton player.
I have made my friend swear on everyones life under the sun, that he’s not winding me up. He assured me 100% that he is telling the truth and he has heard it from the horses mouth.
Check the website after 3pm!!!
He also told me that Beattie will be leaving and its agreed!!
COYB!!!!

jag, pienear, voguel, Smith and Baines wouldn’t be a bad summer but?
It would be better than Koumas, Nugent, Paul Richardson!
Well done Moysie!

28 Posted 30/07/2007 at 17:18:35
But lets be honest..... there is no way that that the hotel staff will not know who he is, and i’d imagine journalists have been ringing too etc.
As i siad, there is no reason my mate would lie about this, not to me.... its not some stranger. And he’s pick a better player to wind me up over.
He spoke to him in person so we will see.
I hope so but if not, i will stand correct and pass on all your abuse to my mate!
At least its give us something to discuss instead on the fuckin stadium move and people slagging of the board!!!!
29 Posted 30/07/2007 at 17:21:37
I personally think that if we got him and got rid of Beattie at a cost difference of two mill it’d be good business.

With the Premier League being the domestic competition that realizes the biggest turnover in the world by far, and Everton being a side that’s on average in the top-ten of that competition last years, it is hardly surprising that our turnover is somewhere near that 20th spot. To my regret, it says nothing about our buying power. You don’t need turnover for that, which can easily be inflated by many things, you need hard cash that you don’t need for other things (like paying big wages, or saving for a new stadium, or...).
Just to show I agree with your first paragraph. It bugs me a little that people use that list to say we should go and buy loads of players. It just isn’t that simple.
