Investment on the Pitch - No Plan B?

Comments (3)

Our old mate Dominic King in the red Echo tells us that it's becoming 'increasingly likely' that selling Beattie 'holds the key' to signing Alan Smith.

If that's the case then we're in even worse financial merde than I thought. So far our net tranfer outlay is about £3 million (Jagielka minus Naysmith) but we need to offload another player before we can sign anybody for a fee.

We've been promised more New Faces than Tony Hatch (ask yer dad) but where are they? If the players we fancy cost more than a KFC bargain bucket (without the Coke) then we seem to be priced out of the market. And if we're keeping the money for Kirkby then how will we fill the new stadium if the side we put out is made up of mostly journeymen players? Bottom line, it's what goes on on the pitch that counts.

Where has our great club's ambition gone? How do we intend to compete if we can't build our side up when European football is within sniffing distance? I don't blame Moyes for this because, if the money isn't there, then it isn't there ? but what a stroke of luck that Rooney wanted to leave and Man Utd ponied up £20 odd million. (Sarcasm alert there, by the way). Where would we have been financially had he stayed, I wonder...

I don't know about you but I despair when I see where we are in financial terms, especially at a time when football finances (at least for other sides) are booming thanks to TV contracts (which we'll be part of) as well as foreign owners (which we apparently won't). Regardless of the issues surrounding Kirkby, it's investment on the pitch that matters and we just don't do that sort of investment. Investment on the pitch ? there is no Plan B, lads.

When you put forward a view like this then you often get stick as a whinger (or far worse, trust me), but is there something wrong in wanting Everton to be a power again? Nil Satis, and the like. Football royalty, as we once were. The sense of frustration is overwhelming when you see that we're considered an irrelevance to many people in football and the media, but the only people who can push the club forward in investment terms don't seem to have the savvy or clout to do it. Robert Earl is now on the Board... and?

And to think we were the 'Mersey Millionaires'. Ah, Sir John... where has your philosophy gone?

Yes success is what matters but not at the expense of the future. The club have to walk a tight rope of success now by spending millions we dont have and risk the club ( Leeds )or gradual improvement within a budget that gets us exposure over a longer period and i believe ( or Dream ) will bring proper investment in the club.

You are so right Kevin,i’m convinced that if we had played more positively against the likes of Spurs and city,we would have finished in the top four.then with the right players coming in,we could consistantly been in the top four.Investors,in my view would then be falling over each other to get their teeth into us,some may have already tried, but Billy liar won’t tell will he?In my view in 5 years time,we could be a top four side.Seems a bit of a fantasy I know, but with the right positive will from the top it could happen,it certainly won’t if we move out of our birth place.
