Baines Bid Rejected

Comments (38)

So according to the BBC we have had a £4million + player [Carsley I imagine] bid for Baines rejected. It's quite depressing that we are now probably going to miss out on him because we are so poor we can't stump up the extra £2m needed to secure his services.

He is a class player with age on his side. I'm pretty sure some other clubs will go in for him and we will end up losing out on yet another potential signing. According to several news reports he is a lifelong Everton fan ? and NOT a Liverpool fan, as some people on this site were originally claiming.

I couldn’t give a fuck who he supports. But it gets annoying, that every time we are linked with a player, he is always a blue.Carl, Baines is a red mate.Go onto www.fourfourtwo.premiumtv.co.uk.and read the interview he done with them.He states he is a red and watched his favourite player,Fowler from the kop. This just needs clearing up.

This is really starting to annoy me now, they only want an extra two million for a class player, not exactly alot of money is it? and BK probably won’t pay up. It’s a bargain if you consider what other players have gone for, e.g Richardson - 5.3 mil. Come on BK get your cheque book out and get Smith and Baines to improve our squad.

This reminds me of when Blackburn had a bid accepted for Barry Ferguson and a week later we offered a lesser amount only to be surprised it was turned down. Evidently we have no money which is OK considering we signed good players last year when prices were much lower but it would be nice if BK was honest for once.

Carsley certainly was the player mention in the press as the makeweight in this deal.

Carsley started every match in the Premier for the Blues last season and while I know he is much older than Baines SHOULD WE REALLY BE THINKING ABOUT SWAPPING CARSLEY FOR BAINES not to mention paying more than four million quid for the privilege ?

Does Moyes really want the Wigan player ?

Does Moyes really want to get rid of Carsley ?

Is the ’low bid’ which Wigan was obviously going to reject just to shut the fans up for now ?

Is there a decent chance that Valente will play the next six months in that position and by then young Boyle will emerge as a better left back than Baines ?

WELCOME ’BACK’ LEE !

Who needs you Leighton ?........whatever team you did or did not support as a kid !

Another Billy Bullshitter soundbite, money for players my arse, get shut of the panto queen and his lies before he drags this club any further into obscurity, where’s Doddy when you need to hear some Pravda spin?

It looks like I’m the only one who thinks this could be just part of negotiations? So what if Sunderland offered 6 million quid, the lad doesn’t want to go to the Black Cats, he wants to go to us. That gives us the advantage in the negotiations.

That we try to swap a player is sometihng that worries me though. We need extra legs, not just replacements (although I believe Baines would be a great addition to the squad). Just offer somewhere in the 5 million and I’m sure we’ll get him. Question remains, who will pay for it...

After we fought tooth & nail to secure Carsley on the one year extension, doesn’t it seem a little odd that we would just pawn him off to Wigan in a potential Baines deal? On the official website there is an interview where Carsley states how happy he is having signed for the extra year. Remembering the Vogel deal looks dead for the moment we need Carsley more than ever! However I struggle to see which other player Moyes use would make up the £2 million. Shandy Andy perhaps? Although knowone would buy him, I don’t really see who else would be expendable enough for Moyes to let go!

This club is run by bunch of jokers and we’re becoming a laughing stock. Moyes should pull his finger out and tell the board to back him or his off.

I think signing carsley up again when he could have walked away for nothing then selling him 2 months later for a fee to the club he was going to go to may be the funniest bit of business i’ve ever seen.
I’m just suprised it wasn;t beattie offered because they would pay his wages.

Er... before everybody jumps on their high horses about Carsley being offered to Wigan. Can I just point out that it is pure speculation that Carsley was offered to Wigan. It could well have been another player, not sure which and yes we don’t have that many to choose from.

But still it seems a bit strange to slag the manager off for what is only conjecture. Slag him off for not adding numbers but not for somethings he maybe-mighta-should-shouldn’ta-coulda have done.

Did Everton honestly really believe Wigan were going to accept a bid 2 million pound lower than Sunderlands?. Would we have done so ourselves if someone was bidding for one of our players?. We are simply making a complete show of ourselves and the whole league are going to be watching us thinking we are trying to get players on the cheap for knosck down prices below their actual fees..Its a disgrace..I mean who was the squad player we offerered to them?. Some total shite probably, some shite in return for a quality player and do Wigan really need to accept shite?. No because they have more money to spend than us so its pathetic again from Everton

*same sentiments paraphrased*
Sorry, this will be much the same as many of the other comments - but I’m so annoyed, and my collegues and girlfriend are bored of my whining.

Plain and simple, we shouldn’t be getting rid of players as makeweights. I think that Beatie should gofor everyone’s sake... but why are we having to barter at every stage. Is BK going to do the washing up for a few months if we can get Smith (though latest says he’s off to Newcastle)?

If we’re trying to get a squad together why... surely Moyes’ Scottish "getting your moneys worth" isn’t standing in the way - and to be honest while Arteta and Cahill have said we’re a club with lots of ambition, if we carry on they won’t stick around after this season.
I am so pleased we got Steven Pienaar on loan... but the failed Vogel bit and now with these two it’s unbelievably frustrating.

I’m more inclined to believe it’s BK rather than DM that is nehond us not buying anyone, his failed 24/7 in YEARS not just this season is seeing th club failing by the wayside every year he remains in control, what’s the point in busting your arse as a team to qualify for Europe if you haven’t the squad size to give it a decent go? Alternatively, giving Europe a decent go and risking injuries and suspensions then not having the depth of squad to maintain a decent league run which is the bread and butter of the club, it’s not rocket science.

It’s becoming a bit of a joke really. A bit like the Robbie Savage from Brum debacle of Summer 2004. You have to say though that £6m is a hell of a lot for a non-international left back. You could get Heinze for a similar amount. I accept that he’s older, but he’s got the experience too. Besides we do have a class left back in Valente, plus cover in Lescott and Neville so it’s a bit strange... surely we have other priorities like centre midfield unless that’s where Jagielka is earmarked for. Guess we might see what shape of a team he puts out tonight to give us some clues on that one.

If you look at West Ham, for all the silly money they have spent they have also offloaded Harewood, Benayoun, Konchesky, Carroll ( 4 players of dubious quality )for around £12m plus whatever they get for Tevez. If that ends uo being around £6m as speculated they will have covered their purchases, although their wage bill will have presumably gone up. I suppose it makes sense to get more for your fringe players in an inflated market hence the wilingness to offload Beattie and McFadden who could net us around 8.5m if reports are to be believed.

A bit of wheeling and dealing is good, but I agree with all those who are concerned at the lack of numbers... we definitely need a net gain of at least 2 players between now and Aug 31.

Ye it now also looks like we are going to miss out on Smith, two quality signings missed out again because we are so poor. The embarresing thing is that we cant even keep are mouths shut about who we are after, Moyes says how much he likes them and wants them and does FUCK ALL ABOUT IT!
Peter Laing
22   Posted 31/07/2007 at 11:33:55

Those who blame Moyes need to take a reality check, he can only work within the constraints and limitations of a restrictive budget, for the sake of £2m would he really pass on the opportunity to sign a player that he clear wishes to sign. Baines is quality, at 22 and being naturally left sided, U21 international and with great prospects surely this is the type of player we should be signing. I knew this transfer was destined to hit the rocks, after all we had the injury prone and ageing Valente talked up weeks ago as being the answer to our continuing left sided problem. Another example of the incompetence of Kenwright, my patience is seriously wearing thin.

23   Posted 31/07/2007 at 11:35:30

Before you slag off Moyes at bit more, he doesn’t dictate the money available for transfers.
It’s quite clear that we have very little to spend this year and that is that.
The Smith deal would have been based on whatever is left owing from the Rooney deal and the £4M for Baines is clearly the money expected from the Beattie bid.
We don’t even seem to be able to afford the mouted £1M for Vogel.
It’s an expensive business this new stadium lark...

24   Posted 31/07/2007 at 11:43:16

Everyone on here should have realised at the end of last season that there was no money to spend. The re-signing of Anderson De-Silva said it all. A player Moyes didn’t use last season and didn’t rate, yet he offers him a one year contract to make up the numbers. Yet again they’re making false bids to keep the fans happy. The baines situation reminds me of the Smith situation couple of seasons back. In a couple of weeks they’ll come out saying the right players won’t available at the right prices.

There should be a demonstration at todays game for Kenwrights head but back the team. This cunts taking us for ride. The false promises and the lies that have come from him. Now his gone into hiding again.

Regarding the stadium issue. They’ve now got the rest of the squad commenting on the kirkby project. That’s more propaganda. I live in Newcastle i know the Geordies wouldn’t be to impressed if they moved to Gateshead which is two and half miles away from Newcastle and has the NE postcode. It’s time for Kenwright to pack his bag and take that CEO with ya. enough is a enough.

I think Baines would be a good signing but money plus player would be bad business. I can only see three players who could be uncluded in the deasl. Carsley, Vdm or Mcfadden. Im not sure who but I think it is one of them.

Baines is a good fullback better at attacking than defending. He will only get better and has a brilliant left foot. To be honest I could see either Man utd or Liverpool buying him depending on who keeps or gets heinze. If Man utd lose Heinze they will want back up for Evra and If Liverpool dont get Heinze they will want back up for Riise. Lets hope we get him in and fast.

Apparently both Carsley and McFadden are valued at £2million a piece. That is fucking ridiculous money for McFadden when u see someone like Koumas going for 5.3; so basically what the premiership is saying is that all these other players are worth more than some of ours?? What a load of bollox.

Oh, and to rub salt in the wounds of the Baines thing, some sources are suggesting RedShite are making a swoope for him. Jesus, it’ll be Momo Sissoko all over again. Someone said we have a ’self imposed’ transfer limit of 4 million. Moyes must be tearing his hair out. We’re not gonna get any really good player for that, especially in the current climate, especially if they are British.

Clubs like Sunderland and West Ham have totally fucked the market up. They’ve got more money than sense and once clubs receive a bid for a player, they’re understandably not going to drop substantially from that amount. It happened with Koumas, Nugent, even Richardson for God’s sake, and now it’s happened with Baines too.

Sunderland and West Ham remind me of a kid playing FM, just throwing money at clubs for players they have no hope of attracting, then the rest of us are left to cough up the same overinflated amount. Bellamy for 7.5 million, after the season he had??! Liverpool must have taken their hand off. And typically they’re one of the clubs that least needs money from transfers.
Of course none of this would be an issue if we had even just TWO or THREE more million more, its very frustrating.

Watch this space because Newcastle are reportedly going to offer 7 million for Smith and the whole thing will begin once more. Teams know all they have to do is outbid us by a million or two and we’re screwed.

Surely, while in all fairness we’re adhering to a fairly thrifty purchasing policy, we can cough up a couple more million to make sure we get a quality full back and a striker the likes of which we were hoping Beattie would be??
Then again, perhaps not...

How does anyone know nothing is being done by DM?? I’m sure he or his assistant or whoever spends time looking into these things and possible transfers. I mean just because he doesn’t come out and say it publicly doesn’t mean something isn’t being worked on. I admit its frustrating every season. Oh and i wish BK would feck off by now sick off him.
