Alan Smith

Do we have any concrete evidence that the club either has, or intend to, field a bid for the services of Alan Smith? We've read in most of the papers that his 'preferred' move is to Everton (as is Leighton Baines allegedly).
If you can believe the papers then there's the Barcodes and the Smoggies (Boro)in for him as well.
It will be interesting to see how it all pans out, if we ever DO get proof of a bid from Everton. I say this because of the three clubs we're 'probably' the one expected to do best next season. Recent history alone leans towards this being the case.
Couple that 'fact' with the assumption that he doesn't want to uproot too much from the area he now lives in and it may show just how far, if at all, we've fallen behind our so-called peers.
Whether you're pro- or anti-Smith, I feel that the outcome of his expected move from Manure may (and I stress may) just be a pointer for the future...one way or the other. Constructive comments or reasoned insults gratefully accepted *L*.

FFS! When will our board get their thumb out of their collective arse? Today we are told Alan Smith is in Newcastle tying up a deal to go to the Toon. Yet again we miss out on a player we are getting over excited about for nothing but another let down.
They are clearly far too busy with their propoganda machine for the stadium move. I think it's quite disgusting the way they are suddenly parading our most valuable players to sing from the company hymn sheet. Cahill and Arteta may well have considered the stadium porposal a major factor in their signing, as may Johnson but the timing of the statements is rather suspicious. Why not the other week? All of a sudden there is something new that's positive ablout the move spilling out of Goodison on a daily basis and I, for one, do not trust it in the slightest.
Can't wait to see you decimated our squad is by Christmas again after shedding so many and being able to attract just one new first team signing and one for the future. Will we have a future if we can't even get our act together and secure those that want to come to us as a preferred destination? (Pienaar is a loan replacement and, as such, a like for like with Fernandes)

Just read over at football365 that Newcastle are going to win the race to sign Alan Smith, whilst the red shite are getting Baines! I know as football fans of Everton FC we can be guilty of over-reacting needlesly, but what with the Riquelme misprint over on the main site, and appearing to lose out on every player we go in for due to lack of funds, its becoming a bit embarrassing for us.
Please prove me wrong Moyes and pull off a real coup. I really think our first team next year will give any team a decent game home or away, but we don't seem to have quality cover. Are we really that short on cash that we can't bring in Baines Smith and Vogel? Because they all want to play for us, and I believe would definitely add quality to the squad.

If the figures are right we should have received 50mill from Sky another 6-7 mill for league finishing. then 4-5 mill for the sales of Kilbane and Davies. Minus the money for the purchase of Howard, that should leave about 60mill. So where’s the money gone?? This whole Kirkby thing stinks. It just doesn’t feel right. Personally i think their holding information back from us and not telling the fans everything. If there’s no plan B in place then Bully Bullshitter isn’t doing his job right and should be sacked. Kenwright and his cronies are a fucking joke and a embarassment to the club.

acording to the radio Merseyside pundit football phone in ( his name i have forgotton) says Everton picked up 31 million quid for what you mentioned. big money very small outlay, Jagelika 4 mill -1 mill Naysmith. what tier are we in, the bottom appeares to be Wigan, Fulham, Birmingham, the middle tier is West Ham, Newcastle, Man-City Aston Villa, and we know the top table, were are we. We finished 6th last year, every one else seems to have strenghtened, hand on heart Evertonians who reckons we will finish 6th again.

yeah but wages folks, wages. gate receipts alone do not cover the entire running cost of the club. TV money is not just a transfer pot.
So far we’ve probably spent 3m on Jagielka
2m on Lescott (2nd main payment)
3m on Tim Howard (with rooney fee’s waived?)
I make that about 8m we’ve spent so far this summer, not the 3m as quoted widely.

Derby picked up 60mill for getting promoted. So how did we only receive 31mill?? The likes of Wigan who have only been in the prem for two seasons have more fianancial muscle then us is a fucking joke. I know their chairman is loaded but surely his not pumping any more money out of his own pocket. In any buissness, if it’s run properly then you won’t have to many issues. May be Wigan are run like a proper football club and a buissness and that’s why they can compete in today’s market. Wasn’t Bully Bullshitter brought in to find more ways to bring in more revenues for the club??? Kenwright and Co. don’t have a clue.

Nah,
We won’t lose out on Alan Smith, he’s in the Marriot isn’t he awaiting a medical, he was meant to sign by 3pm yesterday.
Oh, that didn’t happen did it?
He’s off to Newcastle no doubt about it. Shame we missed out on Baines though, if only we had an extra 2mill and didn’t have to offer a player.

This summer has shown up the administration of Everton as being a complete and utter shambles. Some fans may want to paper over the cracks but unless we get 3 quality additions by the end of the transfer market, Everton will be on the slide. Why? Because none of our big players come next summer will want to play for a side treading water - and why should they. The board needed to find 10 to 15 million this summer to give the squad a chance, a slim one I admit, but nevertheless a chance, of getting back into the top four. Instead they have scraped together 3. It’s an absolute joke.

I honestly believe we are holding out until January. It’ll be a case of play as well as we can until then and then we’ll see some players come in. Or maybe not.

Even if we had the £6m for Smith, the stumbling block would be his wages. He is rumoured to be looking for £60k a week.So with our wage structure we wouldn’t be able to pay him what he wants.

Alan Smith is yet another player who Everton have been rumoured to be interested in - may be they simply asked "how much?" but, unlike Baines, there has been no bid.
I wont pretend to know what Moyes is up to but I’m not going to get too upset with missing players we have actually bid for.
I might however get upset that we have very few new players coming in for the new season!!
Tony.

This summer has been, without doubt, the most frustrating in terms of transfer activity (or lack thereof!)
We always seem to be taking most protracted route in an attempt to get players on the chaep- £4m not enough to get Baines for Sunderland? Ok, well as he prefers us, I’m sure we can get away with £4m and a player..oh, we can’t...If we are truely to establish ourselves in the top 5, we need results on the pitch, for this we need players....I believe we are 2-3 top quality players short of a first class first team, surely it is not too much to ask to bring in the likes of Smith Baines and Vogel...oh wait, it is. Utterly depressing!

Typing this donning my tin hat for the pro BK boys but waiting until January then we will hear Vaughan is back from injury and "it’s like signing a new striker", this club is making me older by the minute

Since the beginning of last season we have lost Richard Wright, Alessandro Pistone, Mark Hughes, David Weir, Gary Naysmith, Simon Davis and Kevin Kilbane. Don’t get me wrong, I think each one of those players moving on signifies progress - just Beattie, Van Der Meyde and possibly MacFadden & Hibbert to go. This means we have taken an incredible financial burden from the wage bill with just Jagielka coming in on any noteable form of salary.
Therefore, the argument about wages also being important is moot if we have a greatly reduced bottom line. As I have said on this forum before, we had the second smallest squad in the Premiership at the beginning of last season. Now we are FIVE LIGHTER (including Lucas Jutkiewicz as a financial replacement for Mark Hughes from a wage perspective) with a greatly reduced wage bill and we can’t afford players. It is utterly disgusting.
I propose we change the Everton Motto from lating for ’Nil Statis Nisi Optimum’ to ’We deserve better’!

To be fair Dave Whelan has recently sold JJB for a reported £180m! Also its not necessasrily his fault that our fuck wit of a cheif exec decided to give him all our profits...we need to get out of that distribution deal with JJB asap.
The biggest joke so far this season regarding merchandise has been the away kit. For weeks it was advertised on the official website about the release date (friday) and then the club shop was shut the first weekend of its launch.....how the fuck are fans who work meant to buy a kit from our own shop? Were not? Oh right.

Have you noticed that time after time Everton apparently ’miss out’ on a player because they either bid just under the asking price or want to make the deal so complicated they’re told to get stuffed. My old Dad, God bless him, used to say ’One day,Kenwright will have a bloody shock-somebody will accept his first offer and he’ll have to stump up the cash.’Don’t think it will happen in my lifetime either, old man!

The situation with the lack of transfer funds is getting worse. I’ve had to put up with more bull shit from a Newcastle fan today, about Alan smith and Joey Barton.
Sunderland a club who had massive debts the last time they got relegated now have more money then us.
The clowns who run Everton need to sort themselves out. The boardroom needs a big shake up. The money situation is so bad, it’s not a fucking joke anymore. Oh fuck it i’m banging my head against a brick wall!!!

You say that Sunderland have more money than us, maybe they don’t maybe they are spending beyond their means, and if they go down chances are they’ll lose half or maybe all of their star players.

Wait for it lads i’ve got more good news. In Jan we will loose Anichebe Yobo and Pienaar to the African nations. Our squad will be even more stretched. Let’s hope we don’t pick up any injuries and suspension before Jan. The FA cup also starts in Jan. We really are fucked on numbers.

Sorry to say lads there is nothing we can do about it to use a theatrical theme for that loving chairman hes like Nero sitting there while we burn, hes sold every asset not told us whats happened to the Sky money ,the Prem money or the cash we got from selling player’s If this was a PLC he would surely be getting investigated and we are supposed to follow him to Kirkby? until hes bought out we are in the shite I hate the way he only appears in good times then hides when he might be asked credible questions I hope there is some sort of back lash on Wednesday better then than the Wigan game but I doubt it. Billys boys will now slaughter us for actually thinking for ourselves

beattie to wigan plus 3 mill makes it about six in my opinion which is too much but inevitable for baines in todays market, and they could do with another shite front man and smith should be f****************** free!!!!! i am sure everton have not seen no where near the reputed 30 mill for rooney, utter bollocks and the mancs have shat all over our faces. howard 3 mill = 27 left, knock off 7 for smith, just!! still leaves 20 which are being payed in " installments " mmmm yeah nice one ferguson u c**t
it aint rocket science moysey WE NEED MORE PLAYERS !!

If Smith like Parker is after maximising his wage then we’ve lost out already. Offering an apple and a bag of crisps just doesn’t cut it anymore. Relying on a player accepting less wages and joining to ’further’ themselves immediately narrows your market.
If we are trying to leverage off the fact that Baines and Smith have Everton as their preferred destination I fear that we are playing a danagerous game and heading for a Nugent situation.
I can understand Everton’s approach in having their own valuation a player but unfortunately the open market determines price and that market has been inflated massively due to the influx of foreign cash. It comes down to investment again once more - unless we get it and fast were fucked
Everton FC are just going around antagonising other clubs by not being prepared to offer the going price and it’s just becoming more embarrassing and obvious that were fucking skint. I mean if you had your car sensibly advertised at £5000 and you were offered £3500, you’d be pissed off too

Remember Lescott and his knee last year well I reckon there is no chance that Smith will pass a medical. 6 million quid will be scandless and Man U will be laughing.
It is a miracle Smith ever kicked a ball again after that injury and trust me it will not hold up for long. He will never survive for 40+ games a season over the next 5 years. That ankle will be riddled with arthritis within 2 years!!

Oh Steve Claringbould! ’’ I’ll never pay for it in JJB again, I’ll buy it in the Club Shop. JJB are one of the worst stores on the High St.’’
JJB run our Club shop and all our merchandise distribution! And as you point out they are pretty crap - but only from the customer’s point of view...they make millions in profit every year for themelves.
Thanks to them we no longer have a Club shop in town, but have to make do with our stuff hiding behind the Shite’s clobber in their Liverpool store. Much was mae of the fact that we would have shirts in every JJB in the UK and this would raise our profile. In reality, from my observations in 4 or 5 of their shops in Kent, if you can find an Everton shirt it’s usually out of the way tucked behind Millwall or Rangers Away shirts. Big Deal!
Steve Claringbold
Posted 31/07/2007 at 20:45:34
They may run the club shop but at least it doesn’t say JJB all over it, so I’m content in the fact that I’m not actually shopping in a JJB store.
If you can find any Everton shirts in Carlisle then you’re a better man than me and they’re customer service stinks and it’s full of Red Shite tops up here so there you go, my reasoning for not shopping in JJB.
Steve Claringbold
Posted 31/07/2007 at 20:50:12

Dan Masters
Posted 31/07/2007 at 20:54:19
I’m not slagging you off, Steve. Merely pointing out that you are in a Branch of JJB when you use our Club shop. I wouldn’t slag off a fellow fan. I’m a bit worried that you are deluding youself just because the logo above the door is different though!
I am slagging JJB though, although I have to say Wyness is the man who put us in this position. Did you know that our old City centre shop is right next to where Liverpool have just put theirs? Says it all really. But as the Kirkby brochure says time and again, ’’ we only want what is best for Everton and its fans’’ You can make your own mind up on that one!
