The Mail Bag

According to a BBC report and comments made by Man United CEO David Gill, United have received firm enquiries regarding the availability of Alan Smith and also a text message. The text is probably from Bill Kenwright offering a dozen Everton mints and concessions to the next performance of Whistle Down The Wind.

In all seriousness, going as far back as April, both Kenwright and Wyness went on record stating that money would be made available to David Moyes for squad strengthening. The same line was probably trotted out to Mikel Arteta and Tim Cahill influencing their decisions to agree to contract extensions. A lot of what is being written is both conjecture and rumour; however, it would appear that we are again leaving any transfer business extremely late. The overwhelming feeling that I am getting is like doing your shopping on a Christmas Eve, all the good stuff has already been bought, what's left nobody wants and you might as well not bother come the January sales !

Do you think Man United will let us have Smith at a knockdown price if we have a "gentlemen’s agreement" not to play our first team against them?
That’s the Everton way isn’t it?!
