The Beattie Equation

Comments (3)

I hate to do this, but it?s time to think about the following:

James Beattie will go to Sheffield if he is paid £40,000 a week. I do not know what exactly Sheffield is willing to pay, but I would guess £25,000 per week. If James Beattie signs for Sheffield, he will lose £15,000 per week for the next 104 weeks as he still has 2 years left on his contract with Everton. For 104 weeks, the loss to Beattie is £15,000 per week multiply by 104 weeks equaling to £1,560,000 (if he signs for Sheffield).

Hence, if Everton agrees to pay Beattie the difference in his wages if he signs for Sheffield, the net cash inflow to Everton equals to £2,440,000 (i.e. Inflow of £4 million is transfer fees minus the £1,560,000 of wages to be paid to Beattie over the next 2 years).

Believe me that the £2,440,000 is a better deal to Everton than having Beattie heating the bench for the next two years at a total cost of £4,160,000. Beattie?s contribution to Everton over the next 2 years = 0. Hence, selling him + paying the difference in his wages nets Everton £2,440,000. Keeping him on the bench costs Everton £4,160,000.

The Maths is simple: Sell Beattie.

Patty, it took me less time to write my article than for you to type your comment, you disrespectful loser.
